The pro comes with it. I like it more than the air. I just feel like I'd break the air.

For the price of a new 13" MacBook Air you could buy a PC now, save the $500 and buy a new PC in 2 years. I've considered buying a Mac, but I can't think of a single reason to do it other than the fact that they're a little lighter.

Less susceptibility to viruses, and also as I mentioned before, you can find open-box or clearance ones for a cheaper rate...lightness and portability is a big priority for me though, so I can see your point if it's not

I'll be the advocate for macs. If you use an iPhone, having a Mac will become much more convenient. I like having my iMessage synced up and can text people from my MacBook.

The cheapest MacBook Pro is $1100. You can get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834314575 and have $300 left over to save for your next computer.

That has 8GB of RAM (compared to 4GB on Mac), 1TB of Hard drive (vs 500MB), A dedicated video card and a touchscreen.

It weighs 3 pounds more and has the same average battery life.

totally unnecessary nowadays. and as you said there is hardware you can get if needed but theres almost no reason you would need one

Portability+better battery life is a major concern as a student, and they remain usable longer than PC's. Backlit keyboard is standard. tend to have fewer crashes (my current computer turns itself off at inopportune moments).

also unusual- my current pc doesnt have a cd drive and I have no need for one.

I do love the backlit keyboard! It was a tough decision for me when I decided to do it, since i have never had issues with PC's not lasting, etc. but went for it bc of size/portability and other features... I do have a lot less issues with mine than dh has with his HP, which is why we went w lenovo this past time for him. It really just depends on what you need it for/want to do with it, I guess.

Also, with StateFarm they have this option to pay $30 a year to cover all issues of breakage, etc. except hardware malfunctions including theft and they'll replace the whole thing (at the cost I spent on it), so that helped make my decision easier.- (this would have been the case with any laptop though, but it just made me feel better ab buying it)

This is the only advantage I really see of Apple products, but PC is getting better.

I do a lot of random work (graphic design, video editing, etc) and the free programs I use don't work on Mac. I just bought a Surface and I seriously love it. Also have a Dell Laptop though.

Also, I pretty much murder technology, so it's hard for me to put a ton of money down on something I know isn't gonna last very long.

Also if random crashing in class is that big of an issue (which it really shouldn't be), dual-boot Ubuntu. You can do basically anything you need to do in class on standard Ubuntu for major stability and switch to PC when you actually want to be able to do things.

The funny thing is I really dislike iPhones, lol...I have been an avid android phone lover for a while and I don't think that will ever change...I agree there are other systems that are comparable or getting better, but one of the other things I was considering when purchasing was the windows 8 system on everything I was looking at. I'm a big hater of BIG Gov't and gov't spying on ppl and at the time that was a major issue for me.

Also, I have not had a virus protector on my mac this whole year and have had no issues, so I think there is something to be said for that also.

I like my Chromebook for now. It was cheap, it is quick, and I'm never using it without a wifi connection. It won't be enough for law school, though.

I'll probably save and buy a macbook for law school. Really liked the last one I had, just couldn't afford a new one.

Might be a good poll. I miss the Mac/pc commercials.

Another funny thing about this was that when I was looking for a new laptop and I expressed concern ab the backdoor software in windows 8 used in gov't spying, all the sales reps could say was, "well, do you plan on doing anything illegal? /why would the gov't care what you do?" etc. However, being the conspiracy theorist that I am, those arguments were completely irrelevant.
