Damn, its been a while (12+ years). Unless the rules have changed drastically, 14. Does the flaming sword matter on attack against trolls, or just for damage?

14 is correct. The rules have changed since then, but that's because THAC0 was discarded entirely. It proved to be too complex and was scrapped in 3rd edition.

Flaming wouldn't affect the attack roll, but it would negate the troll's regeneration. Mostly though it was there for superfluous background information.

(THAC0+weapon modifier)-AC. You must roll at or above this number to hit.

The difference being that you should subtract weapon mod from THAC0, not add.

So:

THAC0-weapon mod-ac=or <roll

We were both wrong. THAC0-AC-Weapon Mod.

That's why lower AC is better. So in this case THAC0 of 13 means if they have an AC of 0 then you need a 13 to hit. However, they have 3 which means you only need a 10 (higher AC is worse in 2nd and below). So the +2 sword makes it 8.

And this is why they changed the damn rules.
