Need some honest advice

Postby MisterT » Thu Feb 05, 2015 12:51 am

Hi everyone

I need some honest opinions about taking the feb LSAT (yes, it is this Saturday - the pressure is clouding my judgment! ). I have been scoring 168-170 consistently on PTs, and feel quite good about it. However, I know I could master LG easy with enough time (current scores are around -4 to -6) and get the score I really need, i.e. a 173+ . Since I am not applying this cycle, I could easily wait for the June LSAT.

So: Would it be better to see how I do this time around and retake in June, or wait till June and get just one killer score. Since I am aiming for HYS, would I hurt my chances by getting a lower than score than I was capable of the first time around?

Many thanks for your thoughts and comments!

Also, for anyone who has any knowledge or experience: what kind of difference would 'killer' extra curriculars do for my application to such schools? I was president of the student union for a year and have represented the Swiss youth at the U.N. among other things. Would that make up for one or two points on the LSAT or do most others have similar kinds of experience and it would make little or no difference? Guess I should do my best anyway but since many people with killer LSAT scores and stellar GPAs still get rejected, I am curious nonetheless. Would have done a sperate post on this but figure there was a small chance both questions could affect each other.

Cheers!

I would wait. Take it in June and retake in the fall if necessary.

You say you need at least 173. Your average is 169, and you'll likely score lower than that due to test-day stress. No number <= 169 is >= 173. Case closed.

Agree with you, just fix your ≥ and ≤ signs, it's 5 ≤ 10, 11 ≥ 4 or 173 >=169 (sorry, I know it's unrelated, this is my math side that I have to indulge)

My signs are right, it may just look confusing because I was saying two things and combining the math with English. My point was there is no number less than or equal to 169 which is also greater than or equal to 173.

You're not applying this cycle so you have zero reason to take this weekend. LG is the MOST learnable section. Wait and get that 175+. You shouldn't feel good, you should feel great. If you truly feel that you need a 173, wait and get your PT to 175+ by taking 30+ practice tests. Anything less is a disservice to what you think you are capable of.
