Diagnostic of 160, aiming for a 175

Post by Floridian » Wed Dec 24, 2014 12:24 pm

I took a timed diagnostic and got a 160. I had 8 incorrect on Logic games, 6 and 5 on the two logical reasoning and 3 wrong on reading comprehension. Is it realistic to improve to a 175 by the February LSAT? I know that logic games is considered to be the most learnable, but is it possible to make big improvements on logical reasoning in a six week period? Am I better off signing up for the June exam?

Yes it's possible. Study hard and good luck.

Was your diagnostic timed?

A 160 diagnostic is amazing though, so yeah, it's definitely possible if you study diligently.
I think June would be a better bet, but study hard these next couple of weeks before the February registration deadline and see how much you improve.

But a -3 on RC for a diag is awesome...even many TLsers have struggles getting there

I would say OP has a better chance of improving more rapidly than most because of that RC.....A 175 is very lofty though and its WAY easier to make a 15 point leap from 145-160 than 160-175 so I wouldn't be too hard on myself if i didn't see massive score gains quickly.

With that said what exam did you take? -23 for a 160 seems like a harsh curve....on newer tests you can often miss -20 for a 165

I got a 162 timed diag and then a 165 final. I didn't study that much, so don't get cocky.

Feb is possible if you study a lot. 17x is reasonable in June with just baseline amounts of studying.

Almost everyone I know who scored at your level for their diagnostic got really cocky, didn't study much, and ended up in the middling 160s

don't get cocky and grind everyday

I actually just created a thread detailing my study plan to try to get a 175 for the June test. I'm glad you're reconsidering pushing the test date back. But that doesn't mean you can slack off now!

I certainly think you can get there with time. 1 month might be cutting it a bit short though for a 15 pt increase. If you can, I'd just hold off to June. Just go hard these next couple of months (and I mean you really have to study diligently to be able to break mid 170s). Good luck!
