Re: DECEMBER 2014 WAITERS (Score Release Poll is up!!)
gotcha that makes sense. So it seems that they probably pick the numbers in that range arbitrarily then as long as its 172 or above? I just wonder how they do it, like do they just pick a number out of a hat? lolDirigo wrote:If it is equated beforehand, then I believe they know which scores will be skipped beforehand.LeeAllen wrote:I was under the impression that they do all the equating before the test is administered. Does the LSAC know before test day which (if any) scores they are going to skip? That wouldn't really seem to make sense since you can't really ensure an even distribution before the tests are takenDirigo wrote:To both conform to the curve they set while keeping the distribution even. I do not know why they would skip a 178 over a 177 though. They probably try to keep the skipped numbers closest to the poles (120 and 180) to effect the least amount of test takers. They would never skip a 170 for instance.LeeAllen wrote:anybody know why they skip over certain scores on tests? as in, you can't score a 178 or whatnot
1% of test takers is 173+. They can't dedicate too many different raw scores to differentiate between such a small number of people. In September roughly 300 people got 173+. That's 300 people divided over 8 different scaled score options. That leaves about 38 people per 173+ score. If they skip a scaled score option, it's roughly 43 people per scaled option.
Should LSAT spend limited resources (# of questions) differentiating between those 5 people or spend limited resources effectively differentiating between 164 and 165, for instance?
Once your get over 176 and that super high territory, the distinction means little. 177 is pretty much the same as a 180 for admissions, so it is easy to skip a 179.

That was pretty interesting too, I think I got all the questions right on that passage, the last two passages were a pain in the ass and I only had 15 mins between the twoLeeAllen wrote:haha yeah i actually loved the stealing the thunder passage from december. Stealing Thunder and perfume were real fun to read (answering the questions, not so much). I thought the free will comparative was alright too. The Mexican passage sucked

The fact that the question sucked so much is proof that it was created by a superior mind.Bravo wrote:Maybe except for that one guy who thought the Han Purple question was a good ideaDirigo wrote:Nah.
