Best way to Use the LSAT Trainer?

Postby nibstheking » Sun Nov 30, 2014 9:43 pm

Hey guys,

I'm writing in June and have gone through both powerscore books. Although I feel I've learned alot, its just not translating in terms of my PT's which I think is more due to the time constraint of the test. :(

Anyway, I just picked up the LSAT trainer in hopes of revisiting the fundamentals, mastering them and hopefully seeing an increase in my LR scores which are consistently quite low (-9 per section).

so my question for everyone who has seen improvement by applying what they've learned through the LSAT Trainer:

What is the best way to go through it?

Should I just read and go through the drills in the book or should I be supplementing reading the book while taking a PT once every chapter in the trainer?

Has anyone used their 4 week schedule?

I want to go through the book within a month and then take about 4 months off to finish my last semester of Undergrad and then return to the LSAT. Does anyone think this is a bad idea? Should I hold off on reading the book until closer to June?

Also, my LG score is pretty good thanks to 7Sage (0-3 usually) is there any point of going through Mike's section on LG or will it just confuse me?

Any advice is appreciated!

You're going to study until June? Aren't you afraid of burning out?

I suggest this schedule: http://www.thelsattrainer.com/assets/tw ... 52-712.pdf

Go through it. Don't waste PT's when you don't have the fundamentals down pat.
Supplementing The Trainer with Cambridge drilling packets would be be beneficial.

I don't think The Trainer is sufficient for LG mastery. I would look into the Powerscore LG Bible and/or 7Sage for LG.

I'm going to study until January and then take a break until April (I will be doing games and a PT once every week just to stay in shape) and then commence studying again from April- June.

I thought burning out is more of a problem when you study intensely for a short period of time?

Thanks for the schedule recommendation. Though it looks good, I'm wary of using up PT's 60+ because I think it would be more beneficial to save them for the week before the exam?

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm going to try doing that. Although I used the cambridge packets before untimed and found no improvement, I will try them again, albeit this time under timed conditions.

I'm just wondering how to split up the timed questions?

They come in different difficulties and it wouldn't make sense to put 25 difficult questions in 1 section and try and do that in 35 mins since it wouldn't be representative of the actual exam.

Any thoughts?

I don't think you should take a break. I think you should study lightly from here till February. Then hit the books hard.

You're right. I think that's what I'll do.

Thanks!

If you are still planning to do a PT a week, I'd start from the 40's and work your way up. Def save the 60's and 70's for last and I'd recommend setting a couple aside (in case of retake, God forbid).

You should drill PTs 1-30

Complete them before February

Would it be beneficial to (in this order)

- work through LG Bible
- work through Manhattan LR
- work through LSAT Trainer while drilling/PTing?

Mike's LSAT Trainer thread suggests doing Trainer first. I think that would be best as well because it supposedly gives you a more broad look at the test then gets into specifics.

That's what I would do at least.

+1 for this plan (though I ended up doing all PowerScore first and then the Trainer - I would also throw in some RC at before the Trainer)

But really I think the Trainer is better for mindset and overall approach - it's better to have a deeper understanding first
