Writing Portion
How important is the writing portion on the test? I know it's not graded, but I heard schools still look at it. Should I be practicing that too?

No preparation is required. Don't do something stupid like draw a picture or write gibberish, just in case a few adcoms do take a look (I think I read that one guy on Y's faculty review likes to read them), but don't stress over it either. Any time you spend prepping for the essay would be better spent prepping for the other sections x10000000

Re: Writing Portion
Look at a sample writing prompt. Take 5 minutes to think about your answer. That's all the prep you need.
As long as you write in complete sentences and form halfway coherent thoughts, it doesn't matter. The questions don't have right answers and the topics are innocuous.

Re: Writing Portion
Didn't someone one do a drawing on his writing section and then get into a bunch of T14s? Admittedly it was more of an illustration for his essay than aimless doodling but still.xylocarp wrote:No preparation is required. What school do you want to go to? Forget about the prompt, draw their seal/logo/mascot. It's like ED'ing, but even earlier.

Re: Writing Portion
The writing sample has never helped anyone in the history of the test, but it can hurt you if you don't take it seriously for at least 20 or so of the 35 minutes they give you for it.

Maybe, I don't know. I still wouldn't do it though... seems like a lot of risk for basically zero possible reward.heythatslife wrote:Didn't someone one do a drawing on his writing section and then get into a bunch of T14s?
