Re: The Official December 2014 Study Group
PT 71 Continued:
LR2: 18/26
BR LR2: 24/26
Holy crap....if you are not strong in diagramming, you will have a lot of trouble. Upon BR, I took my time to diagram most of the MBT's and Assumption questions.
RC: 19/27
BR RC: 22/27..
Overall: The both LR's really killed me. I did alright on LG and RC but overall not happy. Most of my LR misses have been diagrammable assumptions and MBT's. In the older PT's, I have been able to get 20+ on a LR section without really diagramming but it seemed like this particular PT went crazy with diagrammable. Need to drill MBT's and Assumptions to speed up my diagramming skills.
ETA:
Timed PT: 159
BR Score: 171
LR2: 18/26
BR LR2: 24/26

Take a basic necessary assumption for example. The stimulus will have some conditional premises that's essentially A->B and B->C.JDman wrote: Diagramming for LR? How so?
The conclusion will say A->D. The required assumption needed to make the argument valid will be that C->D. The correct answer will either state C->D or contrapositive ~D->~C.

Nah, they love to diagram...I'm at fault for being ignorant. hah. I swear there weren't too many diagrammables in the PT 40's or PT 50's. LOL. But PT 71 was only a year ago so I'm not taking any chances.mist4bison wrote: That BR score is great, though. Good job! You still have a month! You can get there
ETA: does BP tell you specifically not to diagram for LR? TM really pushes that we shouldn't, so I always get nervous when there's a question I probably should diagram. If BP does the same thing, maybe that's the issue?

Yeah, I'm pretty curious...mist4bison wrote:mist4bison wrote: Ahh, okay. I'm really curious about what's in store for us with 74. There was a hard game on 71, hard RC (it was RC, right?) on 72, and hard LR on 73. Although, I guess the "hard" section is dependent upon the taker.
I thought the games and RC were pretty avg on 71. LR doe....
ETA: I know for sure 72 (June 2014) was the one with the trippy game or something.

I do this too. Anyone have any tips for this, especially for preventing misreading or carelessness?Superstaranonymous wrote: It takes massive effort for me to slow down and process things if I recognize I don't understand something. As a result I nearly always miss 1-4 because of a misread or I spent too much time reassessing on the last questions. I really feel like this may be holding me back.

(if) cheeky -> (then) indignant
contra: -indignant -> -cheeky
Moral: Don't be cheeky.
Is that accurate? Haha..

+1. I think this is why going stem-stim is particularly useful because if it's a conditional in the stim but the stem is not asking for Nec./Suff. ass, I will not diagram.Dirigo wrote:I think most people tend to over-diagram for LR, so be sure to only do it when it's essential. How about MBT's with some conditionals? With "all" "most" "some" "none"Shakawkaw wrote:+1. Re: The Official December 2014 Study Group
I know there was a useful section in the Bible about the all/some/most "train." I don't find it particularly useful to diagram these, aside from noting which kind of qualifiers are used, since the answer choice will reflect a parallel in that sense. So, if the stimulus says "Some x's blah blah y," I know the answer choice cannot be "Most" or "All" x's blah blah y.nlee10 wrote:How about MBT's with some conditionals? ETA: Goes without saying that everyone should do whatever they are most comfortable with. As a philosophy major, I'm all too familiar with formal logic, so I can do a lot of it in my head. It definitely helps to drill the Conditional Reasoning packet and do the diagramming for those even if you don't need to. I like to check my work against the Manhattan LSAT forums just to make sure my diagrams are accurate. Once I built that foundation and was confident with my diagramming, I just carried it all in my head because it saves time.
