Postby stef1330 » Mon Jan 06, 2014 1:52 am

Someone gimme a range of the amount of time you spent and the score you got. I want some ball parks here.

How many hours are needed?!

Depends on what you're starting with, what you're aiming for, your study method, your learning style, your self-discipline skills, your personal schedule, and about eight billion other variables.

There are threads on this use the search function. The "how I got a 160+" thread is a good place to start.

In general you're not going to get specific advice unless you include specifics in your question. Rink suggested a few things that would be useful to include.

There is no magic amount of hours.

I started with a 162 diagnostic test. I studied around 30-45 minutes per day on average starting in June and by December I had a 172.

500 hours for my first take. Felt motivated, learned a ton, and generally enjoyed the process. Bombed it anyways, seven points below PT average.

Then retook for the next administration. Retake prep suuuuucked, had zero desire to do it. Slogged through another, say, 250 hours or so. At some point in those 250 hours I really mastered the test.

So roughly 750 hours altogether. Overkill for most people, but it's what I did. Everyone's different, some people get by with only a few weeks of prep. Other people people prep for over a year.

FWIW, I think the 400-500 hour range is a good ballpark figure for maximizing your score. But like I said, it's not a one-size-fits-all thing by any means.

ETA scores: 172 and 179.
