Are you a retaker? What are the materials you've been using?
I've been focusing on my RC this time around, and my Flaw-Weaken questions…
I re-drilled Flaw, and Weaken packets.
My RC needed work. I was -2 per passage all the time with -1 on my good days. I've been trying to focus on what works for me. I'm still trying to figure that out. Ill be retaking prep tests 51-73 so I will asses as I go.
I have one more Cambridge package left-the science one! Will be drilling that shortly.
RC has been the same for me, the guides didn't really help, but continuous drilling seems to sluggishly improve my scores.

Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
So how often are some of you taking practice tests this far out?
I've been doing about 1 to 2 a week so far, with timed sections/drills/review in between them. Switching my emphasis to drilling full sections instead of question type seems to have had an immediate positive impact on my LR score. I'll probably keep on this schedule for another week or two since it's going well and then pivot to doing more PTs per week. My only worry is getting too close to 9/27 and having to churn and burn through a ton of preptests I haven't done yet.
Anyway I was just curious to see what some of you other fellows are doing--also, grats on those handsome pt scores!

I don't know how well the score is reapresentative of my ability because I've seen the questions before and have pretty good memory...

Well what I have found with redoing sections/questions. If I do have a memory of a specific question oftentimes I will not remember what the right answer is, yet some answers will seem familiar, but I don't trust my memory of a specific answer to the correct one, so it makes me analyze the question and answers more closely (to make sure I am not just relying on memory, for oftentimes if I got the questions wrong it's the attractive but wrong answer that will stick in my memory) and oftentimes ends up being just as effective.

I'm experiencing the exact same as you, except I've been plateauing for 3 weeks now. The games from PT43-45 are abnormally easy, but RC is giving me a ton of trouble.Louis1127 wrote:Currently playing whack a mole with my sections in the low 160s. I go -0 on games, I bomb LR. I do good (for me) on LR, I botch a game or get owned by an RC passage (although I just did the maize passage and good god that shit was hard).
Hoping to break free of low 160s soon!
I've tried writing down long explanations for LR questions, I've tried speaking out loud to myself to review the reasoning in each question, but I'm still stuck in the low 160s. It's not a particular question type that's giving me trouble, it's an all-round improvement that I need.
I contacted some buddies that went through the LSAT process, and they told me that I should take some time off the LSAT so my brain can absorb more of what I learned instead of information overload. I would definitely feel guilty if I take even one day off.
Well, as the old saying goes, "the definition of insanity is the doing the same things over expecting the same result". I'm taking a week off. See you handsome guys and lovely ladies in a week.

Continuing to drill will help you. You just need to adjust your approach to questions.
As far as RC is concerned I feel your pain.

Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
Lol this is why I'm in this thread too. The retakers thread is not moving much. I'm retaking a 163 from December 2011. (pt 65) the two PTs I've taken are 167. I got a 172 on PT 47 but I did two sections at night and two the next morning bc I ran out of time before work. So I definitely don't count that. Congrats on the 180, good luck on the retake. I'm really happy I decided to wait it out for a couple years as medians are way down from my first cycle. Smartest decision I ever madeLearn_Live_Hope wrote:I am, but that thread is currently sleeping so I decided to come and hang with the cool kids that are still awake.Toby Ziegler wrote:Congrats!!Learn_Live_Hope wrote:PT 50

Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
I just took the last logic game of the most recent test....
It was easy (once you've set it up); however, it was time consuming...
The 3rd and 4th question in particular.
I think that definitely what would have scared the crap out of me during the test was setting up the game. I had to assign fake variables to the letters (ABCD).
The question that afflicted me the most was question 4, which I would not have been able to solve without the inference provided to me by question 3 (of which I was not 100% sure).
I don't want this to happen to me on the actual test.
In summary (so nobody thinks I'm being cocky): The game is easy with time, but had I taken the september 2014 lsat, it would have undoubtedly crushed me, as it did many of you. How does one prepare for this??

congrats! Are you all speed readers or something special that you do well in rc/lr, not run into timing issues for these sections? Is lr/rc natural to you due to your college courses or previous exposure to the material?Learn_Live_Hope wrote:PT 50

schmelling wrote:when you guys drill, do you mix it up across the sections in a given day? Or do you prefer to focus on one thing per day? what percentage of the time are you timing yourself versus going slow and getting the technique down?
Personally, I like to do a couple dozen LR's, a few passages and a few games, and rotate through that order or I get so bored just wanna pull my hair out. In terms of timing if I am drilling something we were just introduced to in my course, I take my absolute time to make sure I understand the concept with about 2 thirds of the problem set, then do the other 40 at a hurried pace. If it is review of something I have nailed down already then I make it a brisk pace the whole way through. I also like to keep a stopwatch on at all times just to see what my natural pace is.
What about you guys? Just curious to see some other approaches and what has been working for you self-study people. After all, even when taking a course, the most important work is done on your own.
I like to keep it the same each day because I found it helpful but I think this depends on the person. I'm timing myself when I drill and my PTs are under real test conditions.

RC is still a struggle. I can go anywhere from -2 to -6 on a section easily. It all depends on the passages-if they are difficult to understand. I think with RC you have to find what's working for you -I'm still doing that right now...experimenting. Are you doing too much notating, enough notating etc? They are all valid points to consider, and you need to know yourself when analyzing.jmjm wrote:congrats! In regards to LR strive to do what has been recommended before. First 15 questions in 15 minutes etc. after considerable amount of drilling and taking PTs it will come naturally.

Just went -3 per passage on three passages that I've done this morning.

IIRC you are retaking a high lsat score. how many you missed in rc/lr in june? I checked into the retaker thread but that seems to be not much active recently.Learn_Live_Hope wrote: RC is still a struggle. I can go anywhere from -2 to -6 on a section easily. Those of you who are going -0 on LG, which strategy do you use for grouping games? I tried PS and really hated it. I am going -0 on every other LG type except the grouping game family.

Check out the Blueprint LG book, if you haven't already. I found their grouping relationship lessons and setups to be very effective. (Less so for in/out games, but particularly for games with ≥3 groups)Toby Ziegler wrote:Those of you who are going -0 on LG, which strategy do you use for grouping games? -2 per passage. I've been in this slump of -2 per passage for a while.

is there something that caused it during the test? is timing an issue for you in lr/rc? since you must have done well or perfect on lr, you can do much better on rc.Learn_Live_Hope wrote:-8 on RCjmjm wrote: IIRC you are retaking a high lsat score. how many you missed in rc/lr in june? Gave you the wrong stats lol
-6 on June LSAT for RC.
Well, its not working. I don't know how to improve. It also all depends on the content of the passage.
