checking in: took PT 62 over the weekend and did HORRIBLE. 161. Went -12 on reading comprehension (didn't even get to the last passage) so that was really discouraging. Also didn't finish LG so went -5 on that.

But there is a silver lining! Just finished the reading comp section of the Trainer and took my first practice section. -1! I'd kill for a -1 on test day since I went -7 in October. I'm definitely feeling more confident reading for structure after the trainer, so I'm hoping I can keep it up and this isn't just a fluke!

Great job! The Trainer is super helpful. Also, PT 62 is a tough one, so don't be too discouraged.

Anyone have any good tips for Flaw questions in LR? Taken god knows how many PTs and I nearly always get every flaw wrong, even though I've gone through the cambridge packet and bible.

The stimulus specifically says patients with similar illnesses but the answer is that the stimulus ignores the possibility that patients at the 2 hospitals could be getting treated for different illnesses.

Quick explanation from someone would be great. TYIA.

Answer is C because even if the recovery rates for patients with similar illnesses are similar for the two hospitals, what if they only had a couple patients with similar illnesses? Take this sample scenario:

1. University has 100 patients. 99 with terminal cancer who require 6 days for good quality of care. They have 1 with a broken bone who needs 4 days.
2. Edgewater has 100 patients. 100 with broken bones who need 4 days.

Then if University Hospital decreases its average length of stay, it would greatly affect quality of care because those cancer patients would suffer.

HTH

Makes perfect sense. Thanks.

This is a very difficult question to answer because there are so many different possible flaws. I would go over drilling each type of flaw (exclusivity, sampling, numbers vs %, etc etc) so that you have a strong grasp of each type of flaw and what answers go with each flaw. Basically what the LSAT does is it gives u a stimulus with a certain flaw, and then all the answer choices are other types of flaw answers (other than the right answer). Flaws are basically the backbone of the LR. Often times sufficient and necessary, as well as every strengthen and weaken questions also revolves around the flaws.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but there really is no quick way to fix flaw other than to go back and learn all the types

Hello guys,

I wonder if anyone could help. I am having a terrible, terrible time with some inference questions, most notably the 'most strongly support' types. At the beginning of my prep I often confused those with strengthen questions and I could account getting them wrong based on that. However I'm still really struggling with them and I don't quite know what to do anymore

Posting here instead of the regular December Study Group since you guys are pretty much dominating :p

Took PT 69 today:

LR1: -2
LG: -0
RC: -3
LR2: -3

92/173

Besides the LG section (which was pretty standard/reasonable), I felt rushed on both LRs and the RC. I also felt the LR sections to be slightly weirder/harder than anything I've previously seen.

Haven't taken PT70 yet, but any thoughts on how it compares to 69 in terms of difficulty? Also, what are the chances that LR is only going to get harder in 71 (the possibility of this happening is quite daunting)?

69 is almost the same test as 70 IMO. Straightforward LG, challenging LR and average RC.

Should we all do another review session with 69? It'd be my third take of it, but I think reviewing LR in-depth on this one would be helpful (scored -5 LR each take), much like it was on 70.

Thanks! It'd be nice to know if this level of difficulty is what we'll be seeing in December.

No, thanks, that was helpful. I do know the separate types of flaws but I haven't reallllly studied the different ways they are described in answers. So that may help. Thanks!

Maybe so. We could be due for a slightly tougher RC though.

One way to differentiate between an inference question and a strengthen question is to see which way the stem wants the support to go. For example, in a strengthen question, the stem will say something like "..which one of the following most strongly supports the argument above?" This means that the support needs to go UP from the answer choices to the stimulus. With an inference question, the stem will say something like "....the argument most strongly supports which of the following?" This means that the support needs to go DOWN from the stimulus to the answer choices.

I'm sure that there are many other ways to differentiate the subtle differences, but this is what works best for me. Stregthen = support going up. Inference = support going down.

i just started *really* studying on sunday. at this point the amount of days (EIGHTEEN) left before dec is enough to kick me in the ass and get me to buckle down. just think about dat registration fee you cant get a refund for anyway.

I keep telling myself I'm *really* going to start studying. I sure hope tonight's the night. If I could get a full refund, I would bail. Hopefully, 18 days is enough to tighten up my game...
