Lol in tonight's case, it's where a bunch of Asian families get together at someone's house and:PourMeTea wrote:What is an Asian partycheme2014 wrote:I'm staying at home doing LSAT stuff tonight while my mom goes to an Asian party...bee wrote:

(1) Eat lots of Asian food
(2) "Socialize" (a.k.a. listen to mothers humble-brag/brag about their children)
(3) Carve pumpkins for Halloween

I could've typed out a nice summary, but I was too lazy when I knew of a reference that encapsulated the same thing.bee wrote:im assuming its a party where a bunch of middle aged asians gather to gossip about their children, their childrens' love lives, and their childrens' recent academic achievements.PourMeTea wrote:What is an Asian partycheme2014 wrote:I'm staying at home doing LSAT stuff tonight while my mom goes to an Asian party...bee wrote:

if it is specifically a chinese party, there may also be mah jong and/or bad 80s kareoke from hong kong.
eta: scooped by snag but not really bc i didnt even have to refer to UD
Also, do non-Asians ever get invited? I would find such festivities strangely entertaining.

My mom and her friends usually invite a bunch of non-Asian neighbors/friends as well. Not necessary always the case, though haha.snagglepuss wrote: I could've typed out a nice summary, but I was too lazy when I knew of a reference that encapsulated the same thing.

Lol my mom would probably love you. I'm a horrible Korean; I can't cook Korean food. (... Or food in general... )PourMeTea wrote:I can make a mean bulgogi, can I come?
ETA: I get more of the "bad Korean" rep because I can't have spicy food at all.

I went to a Nigerian party one time. The food table was a mountainous array of deliciousness. Then when I was full of sustenance, I danced until my shirt was drenched like the seats of a movie theatre during a Ryan Gosling film.
