Re: December 2013 Retakers
This is exactly what I do. I never stop my pencil from moving. At PT70 the instructor told me at break that he had never see anyone write so furiously (and probably loudly) in a test (I had the LG-LG setup), but I did both sections in ~23 minutes a piece.dosto5 wrote:I actually brute force quite a bit because I usually end up seeing inferences as I'm working through the games as opposed to up front (unless it really clicks right away). I also practiced this way because I knew on the real thing my nerves would take away any patience I had to sit there and think before jumping in.snagglepuss wrote: I probably have terrible LG habits because I brute force like 37.5% of games, but it seems effective when nothing clicks up front. I'll get PTs 68 and 69 when/if I get through 43-66 (minus 60-62) and see what happens.
ETA: I write my blanks in this really obnoxious way where it's like rapid fire dashing a line on the page.

I don't recall 70 LG having any big inferences anyway.dosto5 wrote:I actually brute force quite a bit because I usually end up seeing inferences as I'm working through the games as opposed to up front (unless it really clicks right away). Re: December 2013 Retakers
I might've pulled off the sloppiest -0 LG of all time on 70. I skipped 2 questions on the theater game because for some reason I just couldn't get them in a timely fashion. I did the fourth game fairly fast, then went back to those and had some time to get them with a fresh perspective. Then I reviewed the rule sub q in the first game and spent the last minute or so I had and changed it to the right answer.

Yeah I framed one game, too. I've read in multiple places that newer tests have gone away from having so many game-breaking inferences, so I think (I'm sure every prep book disagrees) that brute force ability/speed is a nice skill to have. I attribute all of my LG success to being extremely fast and flexible.dosto5 wrote:There was a grouping game in the experimental that could be solved in like 4/5 diagrams I think.Otunga wrote:I don't recall 70 LG having any big inferences anyway.dosto5 wrote:I actually brute force quite a bit because I usually end up seeing inferences as I'm working through the games as opposed to up front (unless it really clicks right away). Bee, I've -0'd both my LSAT LG's.

Re: December 2013 Retakers
Started off planning to drill a few AR sections but ended up drilling wayyy more than intended in order to put off LR/RC stuff. Ended up losing focus and getting a bit sloppy at the end, so not the best idea.
Question: How do you guys prefer to drill? I know a lot of y'all have mentioned the Cambridge packets, but I usually just go through multiple sections of the same type to get more general practice in. Hopefully this isn't a terrible idea...

Re: December 2013 Retakers
I have a diagramming system but from what I can tell it's a hybrid of manhattan and powerscore. But in addition to diagramming, I memorize and hold the rules in my mind (constantly revisiting them to see if their is any rule addition or interplay), which usually leads to a major inference when I'm answering the 2nd or 3rd question that breaks the game open. If an inference doesn't arise, I've already bruted some hypos on question 2 that will answer later questions (I place a major emphasis on never doing the same work or thought process twice [this requires keeping a really organized, legible LG page), so I see it as a win-win for me. I used to do the newspaper sudoku every morning in my college bio/chem lectures, so that built my pencil and brain speed, which surprisingly has carry over for LG skills.bee wrote:mind if i ask if you ever used a formal strategy? or did it just click for you?snagglepuss wrote:Bee, I've -0'd both my LSAT LG's.

This. I used to do so much sudoku back in the day. I actually used a sudoku-ish setup for the dance partners game and finished it super fast lol.snagglepuss wrote:I have a diagramming system but from what I can tell it's a hybrid of manhattan and powerscore. Lmao I did some of the drills so that I could feel "proud" of myself for knowing basic diagramming

Honestly, I wouldn't mess with it. LR/RC is already your strength, why throw yourself off with something new? I'd just stick to LG. That's what I'm doing (but you know I just suck at LG sooo...)bee wrote:a tlser was nice enough to send me an unexpected copy of the trainer, so i guess im belatedly hopping on to the bandwagon. however, i havent really been following along with the discussion and idk whether or not to use it if i'm only weak with lg. do you guys think i should go over lr/rc strategy if i'm at where i want to be? i've heard the lg part of the trainer is meh.

Oh, absolutely - sorry, what I meant was not to bother with the trainer at all, since it's only really helpful for LR/RC, and focus on LG however she was already doing.dosto5 wrote:I don't think I'd mix LG methods at this point, and from what I've heard the Trainer is not the LG solution.becs wrote:Honestly, I wouldn't mess with it. Re: December 2013 Retakers
One thing that really got me faster on LG was drawing out a few hypos using the biggest/most restrictive rules of the game. Sometimes I realize as I'm writing them out that there are only 4~5 possibilities and I draw the rest of them out. The questions take like a minute tops after.
A bit late on my answer, but I actually found taking a PT the day before did wonders for my nerves. I get really bad test day anxiety, but I felt fine during the Oct test. Taking PT69 on Friday made it feel like I was just taking PT70 the next day.drawstring wrote:How long before the test did you guys do your last PT or session of serious drilling?

Re: December 2013 Retakers
Quick question, I'm retaking in December and I'm going through the LSAT Trainer's 4 week study schedule.
How do you guys make copies of the 10 New Actuals book? I see that next week I should repeat certain sections from the PT I'm taking this Sunday.
Normally I would make copies at work but seeing as this is a book... should I just dismantle this thing?

and I think the LSAT Blog(?) also has downloadable versions. I too bought the physical copies before I found out what a waste of money that was.
