167; Worth going through LR Bible before June retake?

Postby beyondabilities » Tue Apr 02, 2013 6:36 pm

I took the December 2012 LSAT and got a 167 but I want to retake in June to see if I can get a few more points. On the December LSAT, I went -3 on both LR sections, -4 on RC, but -6 on games (last ordering game was brutal). I went through the LG bible in March and got a few tips out of that to hopefully give me a more efficient way to attack the logic games section during my next two months of prep.

From the people who've completed the LR Bible, do you think its worth trying to go through the LR bible before the test or am I better off just doing more LR questions for exposure?

I took a Blueprint course and improved 19 points so if anyone knows if/how the LR bible is different from Blueprint's method I would certainly appreciate their thoughts.

Since you have the basics down, do Manhattan. Its more advanced.

Can you explain a little bit more about them? In what way are they more advanced?

One reviewer even said "The Logical Reasoning guide is basically equal to the Powerscore method. There are a few minor differences that I prefer, such as asking you to read the questions stimulus before reading the prompt, but choosing between the two is more of a personal preference issue."

So is there really a difference?

Ive read both, but I took the test over a year ago so its kind of fuzzy... Hopfully someone who has done prep more recently can come along and explain the difference.

Great job your first time!

Yes, I would definitely use whatever method works for you to improve your LG score. I think the Manhattan suggestion is solid. More importantly, do what works for you. Try different methods. Also, make sure you know what types of games your struggling with and drill the hell out of those.

Lastly, refocus on LR. Try to go no more than (-5) total on both sections. My first LSAT was 162, and I restudied like crazy (drill, drill, drill), and got a 167 the second time.

If you're starting at a 167, you might be able to jump to 173+. I don't have to tell you the difference that makes for both acceptances and $$$$.

Good luck! And remember, just keep drilling until it makes sense. As one poster explained it, drill until it becomes part of your subconscious knowledge. That way, you will recognize patterns without even knowing it.

No matter what, I think the general consesus will be that using a self prep guide should help you solidify your understanding and hopfully fill in some gaps.

I would definitely do Manhattan over Powerscore. Manhattan is great if you've already ran through the Powerscore LR bible. The Powerscore bible sets a good foundation, but I found it to be a little scattered as the book progressed. After you have a good foundation on the concepts, Manhattan will help you build on them along with helping you start to recognize the techniques needed to attack the questions in a timely fashion.

hmm thanks for all the feedback - especially all the links from Nova. I think I'll try and get the Manhattan book this week and see how it goes.
