Np, hope it works out! I forgot to mention that it comes with an extra set of razor blades so you probably won't have to buy another sharpener for like 8 yearspeppermint wrote:Thanks for the info about the sharpener & the blackwings! I'll prob get the sharpener because the one I currently use is really crappy.Quippy wrote:Just bought the Palomino sharpener and it's pretty good (I'd been using a Staedtler which ate up a lot of the pencil length). I brought mostly Blackwings to the September test and found that they weren't great for bubbling, though. The lead felt weirdly scratchy on the scantron paper (but it worked really excellently for diagramming quickly in the test booklet!)
Pro tip for the sharpener: Nordstrom sells it for $7.50 and the shipping is free, unlike on Jet Pens and Pencils.com.

Re: What #2 Pencil Should I use?
I got so used to using mechanical pencils while prepping that the Black Ticonderoga feels awfully different. The pencil itself feels great, but not used to having to sharpen the pencil for the best comfort (and also finding out that the pencil doesn't fit I would say "ordinary" pencil sharpeners). The pencil itself doesn't feel as sharp all in all, at least in comparison to the mechanical pencils, but probably due to its HB2 characteristic (http://imgur.com/86YoerY).
I actually ended up buying the Black Ticonderoga on Amazon, a pack of 12, and having them shipped to my house.

The correct answer is the Staedtler Norica HB2. Great eraser, dark lead, and cheap.

Hey everyone, I just got my Blackwing 602s and blue Palomino HBs ( white eraser tipped version) in the mail today, so I'm feeling pretty pumped! These Palominos don't say "California Republic" on them though. Is there any difference if the blue Palomino HBs have that on them or not?

Re: What #2 Pencil Should I use?
Used nothing but mechanical pencils for my lackadaisical studying during Round #1 when I tested in June. Found out that I needed regular pencils, so came to this thread about which ones to buy. Was not disappointed.
Went to my local store and picked out a pack that said "Ticonderoga HB"...and also another pack of Ticonderoga erasers. Turned out my pencils were "My First Pencil" for baby kids. I used it anyway during the test and it was just okay.
I'm into the stationery and writing utensils; but previously pens. I went researching again, and found the Palomino 602s and Hi Uni HBs. Because they're pretty and...180 of course. I also need to take notes as part of my job--more than before, so I'm looking forward to enjoying these.
I'm not as concerned with the pencils for the LSAT in general as I am about the type of pencil for the writing sample. I like thin, neat lines, which it looks like the 602s and Hi Uni can do. Various paper also makes a difference as well.

Unstoppable. Better than any pencil I've ever used. I went through a 4 section exam without sharpening once. I mean....it was really dull at the end, but still...no other pencil can do that.

The judge I worked for gave me a pack of Palomino Blackwings as part of my parting gift. I was stupidly smirking as I was instantly thinking about this thread.

The Uni Mitsubishi 9850 has a nice eraser. Although I still prefer to use a stand alone eraser.newcareernewtown wrote:Which pencil has the best eraser? I'm looking for that and a soft tip, preferably.

If you don't use a black, presharpened Ticondy, you may as well marry your cousin and leave the country in shame

This is a nice pencil, but it is not as nice as several of those discussed in this thread, such as the Mitsubishi Hi-Uni or the Tombow Mono.sjp200 wrote:If you don't use a black, presharpened Ticondy, you may as well marry your cousin and leave the country in shame
