I have 22 Ticonderogas and Tri-conderogas that I had to just hide in the bottom of my desk. I can barely even touch the Golden Bears after being gently and lovingly hand sexed repeatedly by the chill, caring Palomino HBs and the 602s.

Thanks to this thread, I now officially have more pencils at one time than I have ever had in my life, and I have never felt so alive.

"Hand sexed"- hahaha, truth.

I also have a stockpile of Ticonderogas I can never touch again, and a bunch of Mirados I will neglect once my Palomino arsenal arrives. And I really don't use pencils in everyday life! Once I'm done with the LSAT, this collection of pencils will constitute a lifetime supply.

I missed the bubbling discussion. No matter.

My bubbling method was as such: Start on question 6. After each 2 page break (usually 5-8 questions), bubble my answers in. If I was having a slow section and the 5 minute warning came, I would immediately go back to question 1 and finish 1-5. After that, I would go back and finish any remaining questions.

My thought process was that I wanted more time for the last 5 than the first 5. This method also forces you to finish the first 5 questions in under 5 minutes.

I would not recommend this strategy unless you practice it thoroughly. It worked great for me though, as I found that I would often not have enough time for the last 2-3 questions.

Lot of strong opinions. But it's not the first time that graphite has led to war. Check out Colin's analysis here:

I bought the TRIconderogas but hated them (mostly because they wouldn't sharpen properly due to the triangular shape). Bought a pack of black ticonderogas and am loving them. Will use them on test date with the helix eraser caps.

My triconderogas are sharpening better the more I wear them down. It doesn't look as clean as other pencil points, but I haven't had them break or anything. They may dull quicker than others though

Also got my Kum today, and my 602s. The Kum is a mighty fine sharpener, and, of course, the 602s are as fantastic as ever. I'm in pencil nirvana.

Anyone else see this in Dre's profile?:

"Dr. Dre is currently in the lab working on detox. He will not be poasting at this juncture. He wishes all the best to prospective applicants choosing a law school with the hope that they make the sound decision. One, is by not going to TTTT you see irvine.

I am proud of the pencil thread and even more delighted to see people benefit from it. deputydog and ManoftheHour will be facilitating the discussion in that thread.

Do NOT forget about Dre."

ALL HAIL DR. DRE. Your legacy has enlightened many of us LSAT takers.

So Palomino Blackwing 602s are a good choice? Those are okay for scantron?

Scantron calls for an HB or #2 pencil because that's dark enough to fill in the bubble. You could technically use a B or #1 because it's darker. 602s don't have a graded lead because they use a unique formula to make them write silkier than other pencils. I tested the 602s against my Ticonderogas and Tri-conderogas (graded HB/#2) and the 602s are a little darker, so I'm going to use them on the test along with some Palomino HBs. There's a pic of that test that I posted in this thread. If you're worried about the graded lead, I recommend the eraser tipped Palomino HB. They're nearly as good as the 602s in lead quality and finish, have a accepted HB lead grade, and they're the only premium HBs I know of that have an eraser instead of the lacquer dipped end.

After purchasing some 602s and the Kum sharpener, David Rees accurately sums up my view on mechanical pencils:

I'm so glad we've got another convert.

My box of Palomino HBs has arrived and is waiting at the front desk of my apartment building, but I keep missing the office when it's open. Want those pencils! (I never fail to be shocked at my own dweebitude.)

Just PTed a 170, despite missing almost all the questions in the last passage of RC. This was my first PT since my switch to the Ticon blacks and the completion of the Manhattan series. I cannot recommend these two enough.

Need at least 1 per game, 1 per other section, 1 for writing sample, one for bio stuff on scantron.

Assuming LG as experimental, you will want 13. I never sharpen during the test.

I brought 10 on my last exam. The proctors had no problem with it.

So with only one break after section 3, we should probably want to have about 6 or 7 out on the desk for the first 3 sections?
