Third time - should I do it?

Postby AuctionTheory » Thu Mar 14, 2013 10:31 am

Hi all,

I've been browsing TLS for some time as I started studying and now am in desperate need of some advice.
I graduated from top 50 public last May, and got a low 3.7x lsdas gpa. (degree gpa slightly lower)
My goal is T14, hopefully in the MVP range, but realistically I don't even know if I have a shot at Cornell at this point.

I took the LSAT twice so far, in October 12 and February 13, and got 164 and 166.
The October one I studied maybe for about three months(avg. 168+ in the last 10 PTs), and February I studied about a month and a half(avg about 172+).
The first score wasn't a surprise, because I was feeling very nervous and did not at all feel like my usual self at the test center.
The second score, however, was a big surprise because I actually felt like I did better than my usual.
I am not even sure where I went wrong(Feb is unreleased), except a few questions that I wasn't 100% on in LR and RC.

After I got my Feb score, I'm seriously considering a retake, but really need some people who can tell me whether I should.
Any advice would be appreciated, good or bad. If this is as high as I go, I guess I should abandon the T14.
Thanks guys.

Cornell's 25th percentiles are 3.5/166. So you have a decent chance. But either way you should retake. If you haven't taken all the PTs that are available, then you need to do that at a minimum

No. Op has zero chance at Cornell barring URM status.

Op, retake is the credited response, you are on the doorstep of the 170s. I am also retaking a third time. Join the June study thread.

Definitely retake. I got a good scholarship to my school because I did. Plus I learned a lot about how I take tests during that time.

Yeah just to echo what everyone else has already said, definitely retake a third time. My first two attempts were mid 160s so I understand how demoralizing underperforming on a retake can be. I ended up with a 175 and now my options are dramatically different. Focus on the long game, shake off that 166 and get it done.
