Any thoughts on learning speed reading to improve the reading comprehension? To me more specific, I should say speed reading without sacrifice your ability to digest the information so that you're not just skimming. I just figure those people who can read over 1,000 WPM could read a question, find the answer, read the next question, find the answer, etc. and still have time left over. Maybe this would not work at all.

Vary that would not work and misses the point of RC. I have spent as long as 5 minutes reading fully digesting the passage before moving to the questions, and answered the all the question in about 1 minute in a half. If you understand the passage the questions are easy and you can move through them quickly.

Tortoise and Hare sort of thing, eh? I'll try that method. I've tried speed reading the passage 2x then answering the questions. With this method I can reliably do -2 to -10...so not so reliable.

Honestly think that this type of method is extremely helpful if you have like 2-3 months and you can read at least an hour or two a day (so yeah there is a commitment but its probably much less for people who have a decent reading foundation). I know a lot of people say that its hard to really improve RC and sometimes reading articles from things like the Economist isnt worth it but I think its worth a try. Personally, I literally never read for pleasure - AT ALL. The only time I read anything in print is for school, so my RC is pretty damn poor I'll say (even in HS sparknoted the fudge out of the classics). But last year I pledged to read a shitload of economist/wall street journal articles and tried reading it in a manner that I would read LSAT passages (authors point, viewpoints and all that BS) and within a few weeks to a month you REALLY do notice a significant difference. I was actually pretty shocked. After about a month and a half I stopped cause I'm a lazy idiot, but going to pick it up again until a DEC test. So if you guys are actually behind in RC, JUST TRY IT. If you are in undergrad your school def has subscriptions online, so take a look. If you are as bad as me, dont get discouraged if you fail to retain a lot of the information at first, but if you keep at it, it will get better. I especially like this because OP put up an actual process to the learning, so you aren't just reading but have a tangible method to follow. I feel like some of the test prep companies would be well advised to include this type of method when teaching RC because I do think its often overlooked. Personally I used the Manhattan RC book and its gives a good foundation for how to attack passages and question and now I'm just going to use this method for the next few months.

Awesome suggestion. Will implement immediately.
