Need Advice on a 5 Month Plan for the June 2013 LSAT !

Post by klaudiaxo » Sat Dec 22, 2012 8:20 pm

Hello everyone!

I will be taking the LSAT in June 2013 for the first time and I am hoping to get a 175+with Columbia being my first choice. My major is Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy, so I do have a back ground of heavy reading and logic.

My first and only exposure to the LSAT was last year when I took a Kaplan practice test and earned a 142. Keep in mind I had no idea of the format, questions, anything, so I wasn't expecting anything more.

My worst section was by far LG with 22% correct (no idea what I was doing) then LR with %40 ish and RC with %50 ish
I know that the Power score bibles are the best so I am planning on purchasing them along with all of the official PT's to study
My questions are:
-What would you all recommend as far as a schedule?
-Should I start reading each bible thoroughly before taking the practice tests and then focus on the tests?
-How many tests should I do per week? I have no prior knowledge of the LSAT so i'm thinking I will need to study the bibles first.
-Are there any other over all comprehensive books any one would recommend as well?

Thanks ! :)

I like manhattan's RC bible better, but PS is great for LR. For LG I don't like either, but I heard Manhattan's updated LG guide is very good. I personally think LSATBlog's methods are the best for LG, but I developed my own through trial-and-error after breezing through the LG Bible in a day or so.

Executive summary plan for people don't read a lot:

- Month 1/2: Read LG and RC guides (MH/PS/?? your choice) and drill games by type from PTs 1-40. Repeat games at your whimsy for better times/scores. Do at least two full, untimed RC sections per week. COMPREHENSIVELY REVIEW MISTAKES.

- Month 2/3: Read LR Bible, drill LR by type from PTs 1-40. Repeat LR questions at your whimsy. Do at least two full, timed RC sections and LG sections per week. COMPREHENSIVELY REVIEW.

- Month 4/5/6: Take 2-3 PTs per week. Every Saturday at 1230pm you will take a 1-gallon ziploc bag full of all your necessary LSAT materials (including snack, drink, watch, pencils, etc etc) to a "test site" and take a five-section LSAT. Take a break after the third section. Strictly time it. Every saturday evening or sunday, COMPREHENSIVELY REVIEW that LSAT. Drill specific question types as needed. Throughout the week take 1-2 timed LSATs. REPEAT LSATs 5-6 weeks after initially taking them at your discretion. Take all PTs from 40-68 and take them in this order: 6X, 5X, 4X.

edit: just for disclosure's sake, I studied using a similar plan (not as much focus on RC as this one) and went from 141 to 168 last June. I was PTing in the mid-170s in May/June.

The logic games bible is essential, so start on that.

I'm in the same boat you are and am looking to achieve the same results as well. For what it's worth I'm getting started on the LG bible because I know that is my biggest area of weakness. Once I get through a section I'll probably drill games until I have the hang of it and then move on.

Those with experience feel free to correct this suggestion for OP

I am waiting for my materials to come in the mail and will be using the LSATBlog's day-by-day 5 month plan.

However, I will be aiming for 165+ instead of 175+, although I wont mind a 175

lower your expectations...most people who score over a 175 have a natural innate ability for the test. I am not trying to kill your dreams, but chances are you will only dissappoint yourself and worry through the process. Drill each section idividually by question type, move to timed sections, then move to timed tests. Review every questions. Know the reason why answers are right and the others are incorrect. Near the end, take 6 and 7 section tests. When you get to timed sections, DO NOT give yourself extra time. Work on timing and precision. Moving from a 142 to a 175+ is nearly impossible. Good Luck
