Taken TestMasters, scoring in the 170s, ran out of tests...

Post by fiestaoffire » Fri Sep 14, 2012 3:03 am

What do I do now (taking the October test)? I've taken 7 of their prep tests (they had given me 8, but an emergency happened in the middle of one of them so I had to stop). I've been taking them twice a week since school started and all I have is the one from June to take. And the partially finished one. I also have the sample June 2007 one from the LSAC (hopefully I haven't seen any questions on it from the class). Should I buy a book? Any recommendations on which to get? I'm kinda worried that I might have seen the questions and that my skew my score too favorably.

Also, could I possibly reuse my half-done test by substituting in sections that I've already done with other sections and then continue from that point? Would that really affect my score in a way to make it unrepresentative of my current scoring range (assuming that I don't make any mistakes when grading them)?

Thanks much

Also, I have a bunch of separate sections to do. I guess I could build a test or two out of that. I mean, the test is supposed to be equal within 5 points regardless of which test you're taking, so it should work.

Assuming you are writing the October test, I would go to lsat.blogspot.com and buy some PDF PTs and print them in order to get ahold of PTs the quickest.

I wish people would keep from thinking of the test material as exhausted when they see everything....

If you aren't consistently scoring 180's and getting the questions right because you recall the answers enough that it skews your decision-making process, then those tests have value in them.

Take and RETAKE them.

Plus, you only have taken 7 tests. There are 71 available tests, most of which still are extremely valuable for learning. Print up more tests, retake the ones you have already taken in a few weeks, and just keep on truckin'.

I really think part of what makes LSAT prep bearable is being able to score yourself constantly, and gauge your progress. I suggest you redo all the PTs from 40-65. With your inflated scores your ego will get a boost and your prep will have more structure. I am down to 6-7 tests 'fresh' tests and I plan to have redone every exam from 39-66 by the time I am done with these 6-7 tests. I use redo exams for acclimating myself to different testing environments without wasting new tests. I try different strategies and make sure to write out why answers are wrong or right on redos. This actually makes me struggle with time a bit, but its well worth it. My notations for LR have gotten crisper, to the point where I know when im right, or, when I may be wrong. I am efficiently studying the test, able to try new strategies, experience the test in new environments, and I get to see an inflated score at the end of the day for an ego boost.

Doing individual sets of questions/passages/games does not keep me focused or motivated enough to cover the variety of things I need to cover for this test in one sitting. You are probably at the point where you can handle all the different concepts in one sitting, constantly.

Redoing tests has improved my PT scores on 'fresh' tests. I had logged scores in the upper 170s on old tests that were not fresh bc I drilled questions or games from them but I am happy to report that I have logged my first 177 on a fresh PT (pt 49), finally breaking out of a low 170 rut. I credit redoing about 8 tests from 39-66 over the past two weeks, making sure I understood why each question was wrong or right with the pressure of time. The fresh PT actually felt easier than some of my redos. You say you have 1.5 tests left. I say you redo 20 exams before you use those 1-2 tests. You'll be more than fine
