...and I've decided I'm not telling any friends or family that I'm retaking for a third time.
It definitely adds more pressure when everyone asks you almost daily "how's studying for the LSAT going?"

For me that was a lot of pressure to perform. Third time around I'm not telling anyone and privately studying and panicking on TLS.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Friends and family are great, but when they tell you they don't feel sorry for you and your 85th percentile score - they mean well, but I know I can do better and I'm not going to settle.

I agree. While some people will obviously know because I carry my study materials pretty much everywhere, I'm not going to advertise it nearly as much.

Sounds like a good plan. It's easier when people don't know and you surprise them with success.

Strangely, no one has asked me how studying is going. I can't decide if that means they don't care or if they're assuming I'm going to do well. Probably a little of both. I guess this is what TLS is for, commiserating with people who are just as obsessed with this stuff as we are.

I'm in the same boat dude, but June was my first test. So far I've just been telling people I got a 168. When they ask what it means, I don't even mention the percentile and say it's just not good enough for me and my goals. If your friends and family can't understand that and be supportive, just don't go into anymore detail about it and change the subject. I don't think keeping them completely in the dark about your retake would be the best idea though. If you're stressed about prep or getting anxious as the test gets closer, or just busy studying all the time, they're probably going to want to know why. Just a thought. Either way, good luck!

Perhaps you can utilize camouflage, insert a practice exam inside a graphic novel, use a dust jacket from architectural book to cover up the powerscore book you are using.
