Apply & see what happens. A 173/3.98 will not end up in the auto reject pile. Are you willing to use Columbia, Chicago & NYU as safeties ? :D

Do you think that you underperformed on the LSAT ?

Obviously, your application to Harvard will receive serious consideration with your current numbers.

Why wouldn't you get in? Granted I haven't looked from the perspective as a 0L in a while, but it looks literally everyone without a 173 and a 3.9+ got in the 2010-2011 cycle, and almost everyone this cycle.

With those numbers you will probably get H and have a shot at both Y and S.

I haven't really kept up with this since '09-'10 when I applied, but I knew two people with identical stats who did not get in that year. Given that the number of LSAT test takers is down since then, YMMV, but it seems as though you'd definitely be in with a higher score, and are only probably in with your current stats.

No, I was pretty consistent with my PTs, but most of my errors this time around were completely mindless. So frustrating! Regardless, I don't know how realistic a major improvement might be for me. +1 or 2 points won't really make a huge difference in my chances I assume?

Thanks for the insight everyone!

Average softs- internship, part-time jobs, etc. I want to know (obviously) if I ought to retake before applying to Harvard...I have looked at lsn quite extensively, but I would appreciate some input from all you regulars over here! Thanks!
The real question is whether you were averaging higher than a 173, and what it would take to sustain that until the next administration. People have a tendency to try figuring out what the numbers say, but in the end it matters what you do.

Other questions: How much do you care about Harvard, how important is a scholarship, how old are you (can matter greatly for Harvard's need based aid), how good a personal statement you can write.

I have a 174 and a near 4.0 as well. Would a retake improve my chances at Harvard? What are my chances at Harvard with my numbers now?

Pretty sure Harvard's cut-off numbers are 175 & 3.99.

Hah, well the OP scared me. I thought a 173 and a near-4 would almost guarantee the OP H, but from what you guys are saying it seems that this is not the case.

wow, 3.99! I haven't taken LSAT yet, but I am very curious to read the thread here. My undergraduate major was CSE, top 5%, none of my department had GPA higher than 3.6. Does it mean I will get into this so called auto rejection pool?

I'm looking at graphs on that law school numbers site and a few people with that GPA got in. However, most of them were URM (black, latino, or native american...these groups recieve a boost over whites, asians, arabs, and indians). If you are URM, you still have a great shot; if you are not URM, and can pay the fee, you might as well apply. Especially if you score 175 or above.

My post above was intended as sarcasm. The only reason a 174/3.96 won't be admitted to Harvard is due to a lack of commonsense. http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com clearly shows that one with a 174/3.96 should expect good news from Harvard.

P.S. Just to be clear: Harvard does not have cut-offs at 175 & 3.99.
