Kaplan LSAT 180...WTF?!?!?!?!

Postby gellisc » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:56 pm

Ok, so I've started practicing the LR sections in this text and damn are they tough!!!! Does anyone know if this text is more akin to the actual LSAT or is this text (kaplan 180) just like giving you the hardest of the hardest questions that you MAY seldom encounter on the LSAT?

I believe the front of the book tells you that it's a collection of the hardest questions featured on past tests.

dude, thanks to the Powerscore series I thought I had a good grasp on the methodologies and stuff. Then I found this book laying in a pile of other books that I forgot about (Barons) and said what the hell....Now my confidence rivals that of a pimple faced 15year old chubby kid who isnt even funny and wants to ask the hottest girl in his grade to the homecoming dance whose boyfriend is the star quaterback on the freshman team who is already being recruited by top tier D2 schools

I don't think that's true? I have the Kaplan Advanced, which I think is the same as Kaplan 180, and at least in my version I recognize a lot of the LR questions from PTs, and checking up on them it seems like the wording is the same, too. The RCs are definitely real too, because I remember not doing half of them since I'd already encountered them. And all the games are real.

Kaplan in general doesn't use real questions, though. But I think Kaplan 180 does.

Idk, I found it helpful, even if it was purely psychological. Since you already bought it, keep at it! Maybe the girl will dump her boyfriend and say yes

I don't know if people stopped realizing this at some point or what, but it's pretty common knowledge that prep companies' own questions SUCK. They are not to be used to diagnose how you do on the real LSAT, for better or for worse. It's not just you, they aren't asking the same types of questions, and the answers don't make as much sense. Do yourself a favor and practice only with real LSAC produced LSAT questions, at least until you are proficient. After that, you can fill in using other ones, but be aware that they are not indicative.

I picked up a PR book at Barnes and Nobles just to flip through, and their in-house RC passages felt like Dr. Seuss compared to the real things. I was audibly chuckling at how obvious answers were and my wife thought I'd lost my mind thinking an LSAT prep book was so funny.

Is Kaplan 180 different from Kaplan Advanced then? Because I'm looking at 2 questions that are clearly just transplanted from PTs word for word. There are more but I can't be bothered to search the PTs
