RC "continue the discussion" questions

Post by TunnelVision » Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:36 pm

Does anyone have any tips for answering "continue the deiscussion at the end of the passage" questions. For example, I struggled with PT7 S3 Q7. I ended up choosing E. I actually eliminated A because I thought "most" was too strong here. Is E wrong because of the opportunities available part? I guess the passage doesn't discuss differences in opportunities available to men and women, but instead that men are just better able to obtain those positions because of gender roles and women making compromises. Anyway, I am trying to do passages untimed for now, but I really don't know how to approach these questions. My prephrase was that a solution might be offered to fix this problem, but of course that doesn't appear in the answer choices. Any suggestions?

I personally find it helpful to try and figure out which sentence is the most 'conclusion-y' of each paragraph and then gather those sentences together to read collectively, sorta as a paragraph of main points.

Hope this is helpful.

I don't think I have even heard of that question type. I don't think the recent tests do that type of question. I would only study such an early PT after you have done like PTs from 20 on until the most recent ones in the 60s.

Thank you for the great explanation, Max. And thanks for the tips guys. I have been improving a lot with the other RC question types, mostly by prephrasing, but this one is still proving troublesome.
