I don't think we'll see much effect until Deposit Deadlines loom. You can even see it in the 2010-2011 results. There are a number of "WL, Accept" at the margins/medians for T20-50 (and maybe others, but that's all I really looked at).

ED, the guy accepted posted in the Illinois thread. He has 10 years WE and ties to the school/area?

Still, if they are that desperate already it is pretty scary.

I don't understand that as a response to my question. Also, it's just one acceptance and with Illinois's doctored numbers, it would be a mistake to extrapolate anything from the Illinois cycle.

IMHO to me that lone acceptance seems a bit misleading to the rest of us who might be in a similar position, just because there are a ton of applicants with better/comparable stats, so it might normalize the acceptances a bit.

Although it would be pretty scary if his case was the norm for UIUC...

I had a phone interview with the dean of admissions at Penn today, which as far as I can tell from searching on here and LSN has only happened 2 or 3 times in the past (or ED applicants).

Just in case it's at all enlightening, I got rejected from Penn ED; 3.72 GPA, 168 LSAT, went there undergrad. Doesn't seem as if they've lowered their standards too much right now (lol)

Hoping this cycle will be a little more generous. Even just the slightest would tip me over the medians at Michigan. Right now only feeling somewhat confident about Cornell (helps that they asked me to apply). Wish I wasn't in this bermuda triangle of stats!!

Did you have any work experience or significant softs?

I lived abroad for a year in South America teaching English and currently work at a major international fraud consulting firm (aka, very good work experience with international/business law which is what I want to go into, and had a reccomendation from the regional counsel and branch head). So I like to think I had good softs, but you never know how much they really matter in the end. The medians are killer, and I happen to be just beneath them (.05 GPA, 1-2 LSAT points) for nearly all top schools :/

EDIT: The medians I'm missing that I'm referring to are obviously T7-14; not T6 lol

I have to say on the face of it, this is pretty bullish for the US economy. The historical patterns correspond pretty straightforwardly with the business cycle.

Furthermore, the number of applicants is noticeably down. As of December, compared to last year, the number of applicants is significantly down. The decease is far sharper than the decrease last year (YTD).

This is good news for those of us not applying until the next cycle?

Or am I getting ahead of myself with this talk of good news related to law school applications

Indeed, it looks like 2 cycles ago had ~ 24,000 applicants, last cycle had 23,000 applicants, and this cycle has ~19,000 applicants (all as of year end).

I find the disparity between year-end applicants and by-August applicants of the last two cycles interesting:
2 cycles ago: year end: 24,000 -> 87,000 by August
last cycle: year end: 23,000 -> 79,000 by August.

Did you see what they are raising the prices to?
LSAT $160
CAS $155
CAS Report fee $21

Yikes!

Indeed, it looks like 2 cycles ago had ~ 25,000 applicants, last cycle had 24,000 applicants, and this cycle has ~19,500 applicants (all as of year end).

...which is approximately a 19 percent decrease. I'm even more skeptical of the Columbia email that told me they are expecting ~8k applicants. (They had 9k in 2010, 7.5k in 2011)

Gotta keep the money rolling in despite significantly fewer applicants. Priorities.

I expect this will apply to schools as well. Especially if they cut class sizes to maintain medians (probably only have to cut by about 10% to maintain).
