Peaked too soon?

Postby emkay625 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 3:36 am

For what it's worth, I'm not trying to be a douche. Just concerned.

Last week, had a great string of prep tests. 180 179 180 180.

I was flabbergasted - had never gotten a 180 before. It kind of came out of nowhere.

Now, my last two tests are 175 and 177.

Is there such a thing as peaking too soon?

(My PT average is 174.7, which includes all 25 PTs I've taken).

I will be super happy on test day with anything that is 170+, but went into the Dec 09 test averaging 173.2 and came out with a 169. I'm terrified of having a 5 point drop on test day and coming out with another 169.

Should I just layoff prepping between now and test day? Prep harder? Advice from other retakers who managed to avoid another 4/5 point drop the second time around would be nice to hear.

Well, to me it looks like you know what you're doing. I sometimes slack a little bit after a really good PT, which generally makes me do worse on my next PT.

Personally, I can not practice too much. The more I practice sections, the better I do on my PTs. If this is the case for you, you could try warming up with some questions of each type before the real deal (or your next PT if you're doing more).

Also, try to remember what you did differently when you scored your 180s. Did you eat more protein? Less sugar? More/less caffeine? More/less sleep/ exercise? Try to recreate these seemingly minor elements. I've found that what I eat makes a huge difference on my concentration.

Finally, you have taken 25 PTs. You know your average down to a 10th of a point. You scored a 180 on 3 of them. You're a baller and this test was made for you. Be confident, keep practicing, and you'll rock it.

175 could easily just be a tough curve. And even that score is fantastic.
