LSAT in middle of Junior Year too early?

Postby kweehunt » Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:04 am

Hello,

I begin my junior year of undergrad in about two weeks. Should I take the December 2011 LSAT or wait until next summer? I would like to add that I will be out of the US from January 2012 until June.

Thanks

As a fellow 0L, take my advice for what it's worth, but don't write it until you're comfortable with the score you're practicing around. Don't take it just for shits and giggles. If you feel you're scoring around the range you need to get the schools you want, then take it whenever you please. Hey, what do I know, I'm a 0L

I normally wouldn't recommend the December LSAT given fall finals are usually around that time. However, the fact that you'll be out of the country changes things a lot. If you feel like you can prepare adequately for the December test between now and then, go for it. If not, you could always take it October of your senior year.

As someone that took it June 2010 after being out of the country January through late May, I'd recommend taking it during December if you have the time. Prepping abroad will probably be limited by all the other more interesting stuff there is to do, and the first few weeks back were pretty hectic for me at least.

Take a PT and then decide. Usually the minimum of amount studying for the lsat is 2-3 months (from what i have read on this forum).

I was also wondering about this. I'm entering junior year next year and taking the October test. Good idea/bad idea? The reason why I decided to now is because I ended up home for the last 2 months of the summer for an internship and I'm likely to go abroad next summer.

I don't think it matters exactly what year you are in when you take it. But, it does matter how prepared you are for the exam. If you feel like you are ready and confident in your abilities then why not take it. It also gives you more time to prepare your PS and other application items.

As long as you're only a year or two out from applying, it's fine. Just make sure that you properly study and reach your goals before sitting for the exam. You should have plenty of time between now and December to prepare.

I took it in October of my junior year. If you're ready, you're ready.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will probably take it in December assuming I'm happy with my practice test results. Thanks again.
