Too Many Answers with Same Letter

Post by FarewellLsat » Mon Jun 06, 2011 10:49 pm

I felt today that I picked a particular letter in two sections (same letter 8 or 9 times in both sections) too many times and that some of them likely weren't the "credited response."

:(

Did anyone else experience that today or did I just likely get a bunch wrong?

I had a stretch of 6 of a certain letter in a 9 question span.

I don't think there's ever been a case on the LSAT of more than four straight consecutive of the same letters in a row. I didn't have that, but a given letter with alarming frequency on two of the sections if I recall correctly.

How common is it to have 8 or 9 of one letter on previously administered LSAT's for a given section (and only 3-5 for other letters)?

yes, i did too! had two letters for seven questions in a row it made me really nervous and/or second guess my responses which likely killed time (doom).

I have seen lsat sections that have one letter 2 or 3 times and others a bunch. Dont worry about it. If you are so concerned with frequency, then you shouldn't have even read the problems. You're fine. Don't hinder your summer fun worrying about what is now beyond your control. Good luck.

As per the PowerScore LR Bible, the LSAT will deliberately create consecutive right answer chains to psych out test takers. The book says that (at the time of publication) they had seen as many as 4 consecutive same-letter answers, but for all we know, the test we just took has set new records. I wouldn't worry about it - I distinctly remember seeing several chains of same letter answers (and it wasn't just from systematically selecting a certain letter over and over again in places where I ran out of time), and I'm sure that this happens at almost every test.

Even if it's random, probability of having 5 of the same letter in a row would be 5^-4, or 1 in 625. That's once every 6 tests.

This is why you don't try to metagame (and I was one of the worst at this before I drilled it out of myself).

Did some analysis of this issue a while ago, with some interesting results.

Summary: 5-in-a-row hasn't happened on a released exam, 4-in-a-row seems to happen less-often than it statistically should, and the word BECCA has been spelled-out as often as one would expect.

Same here. I was concerned for a little but I try not to second guess my choices when they feel right!

I can't remember. i'm still mentally drained from yesterday. I'm LSAT impaired but I had LG LR LG RC LR and I think it was either the 2nd 3rd section.
