time off

I'm graduating in may of next year (4.0 + GPA) . Will a year off to study for the LSAT, while working as a waiter (or something unrelated to academics), hurt me? I'm talking top-14 schools here. Cheers.

It says "I'm a pragmatist that's not intellectually curious." Fortunately for you, all they care about is your GPA and LSAT.

Why work as a waiter? I'm sure you could probably find more substantive employment

Push paper.
Being a full-time waiter is pretty intense and you often don't get home until 2am. I could see it getting in the way of your studies, and it totally doesn't help your resume.
Then again, I made bank working at a bar.

If your really worried about it effecting your application just spin it as it was the only job you could find because of the bad economy. Or you could just go see if you could get on with a noticeable charity organization, and mention it in your PS as a year of you giving back to your community.
