Top Law Schools

Took October. Bombed one LR section (-9). Brought down score to a 168.

I haven't touched anything LSAT related since then. I hope to take the June one and break a 170.

I've probably done around half the tests and snippets from most. What's the best way to re-study?

Atlas RC. Get it. Read it. PT for a bit. Come back to report.

I never "studied" for RC other than doing sections.

Does Atlas RC work? I can't imagine how anyone can self learn RC it seems so much more intuitive than others.

I disagree with the notion that one can't study for the RC. The LSAT RC is closer to LSAT LR than to any other standardized test's RC. The TLS consensus is that the Atlas RC is better than the Powerscore RC, hence my recommendation to you. I got -9 in Oct on RC too, just like you. FWIW, recently, the lowest i got on it was -5. The highest -2.

Haha, I wish. I think I got lucky on that RC. I usually average -4 to -5. I'll look into buying that book...just a little short on cash right now.

well, if you want to tune up the LR, i guess you can do the LRB and possibly get the Atlas LR guide (it's a new, longer edition this year).

Tbh, I didn't find much in the LR bibles helpful after you got the jist of what each question was. It was then all practice and practice.

yeah, the bibles were too basic in my experience. PTing over and over and understanding wrong answers is always the default strategy, esp for us retakers.

Do you think the Atlas RC book is worth it if I am usually averaging a -2 or -3 on RC? I just assume the easiest way to a high score for me is missing 1 or 2 per section by the time I take the test in June.

You can check to see if they have it at your local Barnes and Noble with your zip code. If they do you could go check it out and see if it's worth buying.

I think it's EXCELLENT, if you really internalize their method. Here's what I suggest:

1.) Read each chapter of Atlas
2.) Drill yourself on what you've just learned and condense the strategies into a "notecard"
3.) Take a RC section (NOT the Atlas one - you want to save the passages in the ATLAS book because they have detailed explanations and there are only a few) with the notecard right in front of you and APPLY it to the RC passage and section.
4.) Same thing each chapter.
5.) By the end of having read the book - take all the advice you like (remember - not everything in every book is going to work for you) and turn it into a final flashcard and the - just PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE reading comp with the strategies.

This helped me go from about -8 or -9 to -3 on PTs.

What Atlas helped me realize was that I was spending far too much time on the passage. It doesn't matter how many times you read the passage or how well you comprehend it if you can't get ot the questions on time, and either way there's a good chance oyu'll be re-reading portions of the passage anyway.

Also, writing notes was a huge waste of time for me. WHile they may have helped me with comprehension, they also slowed me down ridiculously. So, you have to really analyze WTF you're doing wrong and just keep at it. RC can be improved granted - a lot less than LR - but still, it can be. It really comes down to making the most of your innate ability to read.

Conclusion:

BLAST through the passage in 2.5-3 minutes without taking notes and then spend the majority of the time on questions.
