You can argue that people who score over a 170 are more likely to have a high GPA because of raw intelligence, but a lot of times there are subpar GPAs and criminal records/academic records that come into play. A 170 is more necessary than it is sufficient.

Well, that was the point. What exactly is the profile of people who get 170's? How many of them end up one place? How many of them end up another? Of course not all of them go to, say, HYS. But what do they do? And my best estimate is about 60% of them end up at the top 17, if not the top 14. What about the other 40%? We don't really have any way of knowing, at least not that I'm aware of. Though plenty of them fill out the rest of Tier 1 and some of Tier 2.

Why? Below average GPA or softs?

I have no clue.

Second-hand info from dean of admissions there, to my friend, to me.

There are some T2's who will give fullrides to anyone over 170, even with a terrible GPA. It's a better choice than Iowa with 10K.

If you want to get even further details....what happens to extreme splitters? I.E. folks in the 3.0-3.3 range with 170+? Or even 175+? There must be some.

Do all go to 15-30 schools with $$$$ as opposed to paying top dollar for top 14?

Northwestern at sticker or UIB with the auto-$$$

From personal experience, not all 170+ do plan to go to law school. I took the LSAT because I have difficulty finding a job in my smallish town. I have good reasons to stay in this city/town and I thought that if I took the LSAT, I could teach that. One thing this city has is a decent university with a law school.

I did apply to the law school in town but haven't decided yet if I will go. It depends on other prospects.

In some ways, I took the LSAT because I was bored.
