Im just curious is their some ultimate rule to follow in LR to obtain the correct answer. I know that every stimulus,question and answer are completely different from the last but their has to be something within the stimulus or answer choices that ultimately can lead you to the right choice the majority of the time. When I read some questions I think I can find the answer in the conclusion and then it ends up being the premises that I should have observed more closely or vice versa, if I look to the premises for an answer it ends up being in the conclusion. Can anyone give some advice that might be universal in choosing a correct answer. Thanks alot.

There are so many different question types. Its difficult to come up with a universal way to choose an answer.

The best thing I can tell you is to read everything carefully. One tiny modifier word can change an entire argument. Never dismiss any answer choice. Read them all. Make sure you know what youre supposed to be doing. If youre doing a must be true question, make sure the answer can 100% be verified. Stuff like that.

If you havent done so, learn how to attack each and every LR question type. Dont just do questions. Understand what youre supposed to be doing.

Some of them are tricky. I remember one from the Oct everyone on here told me I was wrong on a bunch of LR when in actuality I was correct on all of them. The thing to remember is that only one answer can be correct. The one that gave me the most trouble from October (and one that no one agreed on me with) the correct didn't HAVE to make the change described in the stimulus but it was the only one that COULD affect the ratio in question. They can be very particular. The biggest thing is read carefully.

When you say COULD affect the ration in question would I look at the question as a whole or a certain piece such as the conclusion to figure out which answer would affect that certain part?

It was one on car thieves. Basically, It was a choice between plausible answers that didn't necessarily change the ratio and a less convincing answer that necessarily changed the ratio. It is just an example of how they ask for some very picky things. My advice is just to really think about what each part of the question and what each answer is saying. I know that is usually how I would make mistakes on PTs. Realistically though, you can't read as carefully as you would want.
