I got 147 on my december Lsat
Hi everybody!
I took Lsat and got 147. I am a foreigner (Armenian) and I have Russian lawyer degree also I have disability. Is it possible that Loyola or USC will accept me for J. D.?
Thank you!

Possible? Yes. Probable? Absolutely not.gev8787 wrote:Hi everybody!

That LSAT is far below the 25%ile. The fact that you're Armenian is negligible at best. Unfortunately, you won't get a boost for that.
Russian lawyer degree? Is that in any way equivalent to an American JD? I know nothing about international law degrees...

Yes it is equivalent to an American JD. I can apply with my Russian degree to LLM but i want to get American J. D.

Not a chance. You'll need about 162 for Loyola and 169 for USC. T4 schools will probably not let you in with a 147 (and if they do god help them). Your status as an Armenian will not help you. Armenians are overrepresented in law schools in Los Angeles. If you have a disability that is preventing you from getting a decent LSAT (assuming you speak English properly), you need to work a little harder to overcome it.gev8787 wrote:Hi everybody!

Retake the LSAT. You're surely capable of a higher score.

Not equivalent. Russia has a Civil Law system. And Russian universities are notoriously corrupt.gev8787 wrote:Yes it is equivalent to an American JD. I can apply with my Russian degree to LLM but i want to get American J. D.

Find out whether your Russian JD can transfer over some courses. Also call up admissions offices to see whether they evaluate you based on your Russian JD's grades. After all, for US transfer applicants, US law schools will only look at 1st year law school grades.
Edit: If admissions are based primarily on your 147 LSAT, I (and probably everyone on TLS) would advise you to retake.

Credits will not transfer for JD.
I would love to see what they actually covered in that Russian undergrad law course.

Several LLM programs allow for transfer into JD program if you get good grades. Start with those.gev8787 wrote:I mean that Russian law degree is accepted In US for LLM. Law system is of course different

Actually that's really not a stereotype...pretty much dead on. To get into a top Russian undergrad law (or anything else thought to be lucrative in the long run) program, most students have to take a test like the LSAT, except there is no test, and it costs $$$ to take it, and that $$$ goes directly to a faculty member/administrator who has a say in your admission. Sure, some do get in on merit, but it's far from the majority. And actually, if you pay enough, you can have your name entered into the official alumni database, so no one will ever be able to tell if you actually attended. No joke.Beast15 wrote:Stereotype? Wow. Thought corruption was only that blatant in the movies.thechee wrote:Actually that's really not a stereotype...pretty much dead on. One of my LOR writers (a prof who chairs my business school's admissions committee) told me a similar story about business school applicants/alumi from China. According to him, it's not all that difficult to "pay" for a perfect academic record in China. He was telling me that the prevalence of corruption makes foreign credentials (Chinese in particular) a bit dubious.

Funny, so true about China. I DO NOT work for this type of company. I only do visa consulting, but another company that works with us is devoted to manufacturing fake credentials and even fake acceptance letters to top U.S. universities to use at the visa interviews....The northeast where I work is notorious for this type of corruption. Sad but true, and many Chinese university grads have trouble getting jobs because employers know exactly what's going on.Beast15 wrote:Wow. The US was at least as bad with respect to diploma milling less than a century ago.

In my case I do not have choice and have to stay in US.
Even with a perfect diploma for Russia I can not get a job due to disability.
What about Chapman Law school or California Western school of Law
with 147?
