I hate it when LSAT asks you for the main point, and you can't choose between two answers because one AC describes one half of the passage, and another AC describes the other half of the passage, and none of the other ACs come close. How are you supposed to tell which half is supposed to represent the whole passage?

Haha, just did this one last week. What was the answer choice that gave you trouble? From what I remember the passage was like:

Mainstream filmmakers' technique blows.
Using crazy film techniques is awesome.
Black women filmmakers use mainstream techniques. Lame.
But they also make films with crazy topics!
People say only crazy techniques make a film cool.
But I say the black women filmmakers crazy topics are cool too!
Examples!

And then the main idea was like black women filmmakers make experimental films using mainstream techniques, right?

I remember that passage had one of those evil questions that say "the passage mentions all of the following except" and you have to go on some time-consuming wild goose chase to locate all of the wrong answers. Ugh.

I didn't realize Soj was a boy. I thought she was a girl.

Haha why?? And for future reference, it seems that 98% of people in here are guys, so when in doubt, I'd say "it's a boy" is a safer bet

@ mickeyd: Yep, got those two and nothing else wrong in the entire section.

Actually, you're probably right about the main point. I just didn't really get the gist of that passage. I basically assumed it was going to be the usual "minority artist bucks trend and is amazing, and traditionalist haters gonna hate but minority artist rocks anyway" passage, and then got confused when the passage started talking about the filmmakers actually using mainstream methods.

And what kind of bullshit is that "passage features all except" question. One of the "wrong" ACs totally wasn't mentioned in the passage. The passage mentioned why some people receive recognition, and the AC said why some people are denied recognition. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure there were instances in RC in which this kind of reversal was significant.

I know it's friday, but my wife is out of town so I'm not doing anything tonight. Anybody want to meet up in the room and go over some LR tonight?

Cool. Is it weird that I'm a little nervous to see how I measure up? Haha :) and nice work on those LRs, especially that second one! You are going to be unstoppable soon.

More LR drilling, Must Be True. Unlimited time, got 91/94 correct. Made a mistake on a really cleverly hidden mistaken negation, one reading error, and then of all questions, I got the endosymbiosis/nucleomorphs question from the LRB wrong (PT31 LR2 #22). Anyone care to explain it to me?

After I worked through the conditional at the end of the stimulus, the way I read it, you have the following premises:

Nucleomorphs have been found within a plant called Plant X.
Nucleomorphs are the remains of an engulfed organism's nucleus. (evidence for endosymbiosis.)

TCR (E) Plant X emerged as a result of 2 organisms going through endosymbiosis.

I see that nucleomorphs probably engulfed another plant, but why does that mean Plant X "emerged as a result" of that?

After the stim defines endosymbiosis (engulfing of one organism by another), it moves on to the curious example of the chlorarachniophyte, which has two versions of the same gene. It says that only one version of the gene should be there unless it contained an engulfed organism.

The question wants you to link the engulfing of endosymbiosis, to the engulfed DNA present in the chlorarachniophyte.

Endosymbiosis is the explanation for Plant X's peculiarity.

Hope that helps.

I'm pretty excited right now because I feel that I've had a huge breakthrough on games. Seemingly, I seem able to make inferences much more quickly and accurately than I was able to even just yesterday, at least in my perception of my ability. Anyone else have a huge shift all of a sudden or is it usually just a gradual thing and I just didn't notice it until now?

I remember doing this question, getting it wrong (I'm sure the answer I selected was bad), and thought that the same thing that you do. I don't understand what the plant that seems to be hosting these Nucleomorphs has anything to do with the correct answer. I'd also be curious to have another interpretation...

In other news I had a drop from my 172. I hate drops.

PT#53
LR - 3
AR - 2
Exp - 2
LR - 5 :(
RC - 4

Raw - 14
Scaled - 167

Once again, I'm confounded by a point at issues question. The LSAC really just needs to get rid of these :P

Section 1 - Question 2

Why wouldn't Fredrick agree that museums should seek to represent all genres of art in their museum? I'm sure he wouldn't agree with this goal being achieved at the expense of taking works that aren't recognized masters, but he why would he disagree with the statement as is? Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

RED ALERT - I am freaking out. Funny how stuff like this hits you at the most random moments, but there I am showering, thinking "Oh, it's Saturday - another week passed" and then bam - I realize that's only gonna happen, what? Six times until the LSAT. And my last PT was a 165. FIVE POINTS higher than my diagnostic. Five. What is wrong with me? I can not do this. Arrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Not to mention all the annoying crap that gets in the way, like my mom is coming into town to visit and will be staying in my apt for 5 days at the end of this month/beginning of May, plus having a sig other is a bad idea for being a good LSATer. Maybe I should just wait til Oct.

Eich, you can do this!! Your breakthrough might come suddenly and unexpectedly sometime in the next few weeks. It's perfectly normal to be anxious, but remember you've been prepping diligently for a reason. Besides, taking the test in June is a big advantage because you can cancel it or retake it later without having to postpone your applications. And if you do get lucky on test day with questions you're comfortable with, you'll be extremely glad you took it then.

I feel you on both visiting mom and sig other. Hang in there, 7 weeks is still a lot of time -- think of the last time you studied for an exam 7 weeks ahead of time (i.e. never... I hope, haha). You got this :)

Eich I sometimes freak out similarly too. 51 days, right? Then I think about what I was doing 51 days ago and know that that time span will be equal to today till the LSAT. Kinda scary. But yes, 51 days is still a LOT of time! I know what you mean about the mom thing - mine is visiting this weekend. Happy to see her but need to study! SO's... Went on a date last night and could only think about the 5 hrs I was missing studying  And not to mention all my damn finals taking my precious time away. Grrr. But such is life

You know your biggest weakness is games. I mean, if you went -2 on LG on test day you would be 170+ no problem, maybe even 175+ . And the thing is, I know your LG avg will be -2 by June. Just practice them diligently! You'll start having a LG breakthrough after you do a billion of them - trust me. And then, all will be swell

Thanks guys. If I could get solid at games in like 10 daysish I'd be feeling good, but I just feel like they will always be a crapshoot for me :( I'm just really stressed because it's like, holy crap 50 days goes by soo quick. And I've accomplished pretty much nothing despite all the time I've put in. (And I kind of hate myself when I think that I took my diagnostic like 1.5 years ago, started the games bible then to see what I was up against, and knew -I knewwwww- games would be my Achilles heel. I should've started sooner, but I didn't start prepping til this January).

And Florida I know what you mean about just thinking about studying when your sig other wants to hang out - I've been with my boyfriend for a looong time so we are at that stage where we pretty much were together any time we didn't have other obligations, and he would stay over a vast majority of days out of the week. But now it's like, "Heyyy...so you know that girl who spent 24/7 with you, did your laundry, cooked dinner, baked ridiculous amounts of treats for fun and had movie night every weekend? She's gone. Forget her." and while his words say he supportive, he is sulky and I can tell he's none too pleased despite knowing it's necessary.

So did I have a mini panic attack? Yup. Not gonna lie, I had a bit of a cry too  (I'm not much for crying, but hey, it happens). Also, told my boyfriend (Love you but) GTFO until I'm getting 170s consistently and get into a routine. When he comes over to hang out I inevitably don't read in the evenings for my spare time like I should, and I end up staying up til like 1:30 (he's a night owl). Not good.

Oh, and PS I no longer have friends.

Blargh I knew this LSAT stuff would be hard, but this is haaaaaarrrrrrd. I guess I thought it would come quicker than this. I'm going on lock-down for the next 10 days and doing 12ish games/day and rereading the LGB. I hope that helps a lot :?

Eich, count me in on the freakout mode too. Sadly, I can't just hole up and study because I have these 2 young boys that if I try that will destroy my house, themselves, the world... And they're not quite old enough to fend for themselves. Darn the luck. I see lots of late nights and caffeine in my future in the next few weeks. Yay for no social life/caffeine induced hazes!
