In at a top 10 - should I retake tomorrow? Forum

With a 3.9 and 165 I flung a Hail Mary into the ED hat of a top 10 school and received the acceptance call! Question now is, should I retake my LSAT tomorrow? Is there a $$ upside if I score 170 or better? I ask because I read where the downside of ED is that one gives up their chance for extra $$. True? No true? What would U do?

I also read -- if I retake and receive a lower score (than 165) the lower score will not adversely impact me. True, or not? Thx.

Obvious answer is obvious. You're not going to get any additional money if you're already in via ED - that's what ED means. Stay home.

Don't worry. With any luck, hyperinflation will kick in just as you graduate. Your debt will suddenly have the current equivalence of $20k.

You aimed. You fired. You hit. You may not have fully internalized the implications of your actions at the time, but now you're into an amazing school. Own your decision and strap in for a hell of an academic career. The hope is, as it is with all of us, that you'll be happy with your decision in 50 years. I think you will be.

Given these boards are generally not impressed with 165 I was prepared to retake LSAT tomorrow, especially since I was (and am) testing in the +170s. I figured it would be less pressure since I was happily prepared to accept the W&L offer (the first school with an acceptance). Then earlier today Illinois offered a $30K scholly. Even without the ED obligation, I am pretty sure I would have opted for Michigan.

It is bothersome, and it goes against my grain, not to take a test I have studied hard for. A test that I will not likely take tomorrow, unless someone comes up with a great reason to do it―so bring it on !

As a PS: I was advised $80K is what one would expect to pay at a top ten school, perhaps they were ball parking Ivy schools, Michigan in more in tune with $60K. Although I have yet to receive their package, perhaps it will indicate what to expect cost wise for books, etc.

Yes.

While I suppose that it depends on where you are testing. If you're testing around 170+ after scoring a 165 and there is a huge curve it means you have a pretty good chance at 170+. With that GPA, the poster will probably have money at the school to which he or she was accepted (I am guessing UVa, but maybe MVP). He or she could maybe even get into a T6 with numbers like those, or get big money at a 10-20, which might justify deferring.

If he or she will not be kicked out for scoring lower, then what reason is there not to take the test. Absolutely none. The money has already been spent.

Although I placed myself in the position of wondering, “what if,” I nevertheless opted out of today’s LSAT. I would have loved to put a few more points on the board, but a friend who loves football analogies said there is nothing wrong with getting into the victory formation and taking a knee. Thanks for everyone’s advice.

Michigan? Excellent. I didn't even apply ED and I'm still thinking about swallowing sticker. Whatever you ultimately decide, I wish you luck.
