PT59 LG #10 (replace the rule)

Postby 2011Law » Sun Dec 05, 2010 10:35 am

This kind of question is the worst for me, I usually cannot do it, at least not without wasting more time than I can afford. Can anyone help me out by letting me know what steps you go through in your head or on paper to do this one?

looks like you and i are on similar PT schedules.

thought process and actions:
1. note the rule (H before K but not first) is rather restrictive so if any of the choices are general, candidate for elimination
2. A: this is too general and answer to 6 clearly demonstrates this isn't even true. A out
3. B: again answer to 6 shows this isn't true. B out
4. C: too general b/c this doesn't eliminate K before H. C out.
5. down between D and E
6. this is where i just guessed haha b/c i was down to the last minute.

so for general advice, on these types of questions, if the rule is rather restrictive, try to eliminate the choices that are too general or when applied have a different effect (aka not true).

I hate these too; this one, however, is pretty easy.

H--GK (in the original setup).

So scan the answer choices to find one that fixes H before the GK block.

B and D are the only ones that seem like they might have these properties.

B: States that either F or M must be first. However, this changes other rules, so it's kind of iffy. It would also keep the IL block from being first, like in answer choice 6.

D: H cannot be first. This states H can be second or between M (which appears in the first 3) and the GK block. Obviously, if H were third, then M would have to be second. So this is answer choice is nice and clean, and it works. Bingo!

E is easy to eliminate.

K is after H which must be after F?

H has to be after F? huh? That's not part of the original game.

F is 7th in the acceptability questions and in one of the limited options (if you bothered to sketch that out).
