6 point spread? Forum

So, I started with 29, just did 59 and got a 164, very very disappointing. My average has been at 167 for a little while now, and it seems I can't get away from it, though I get 169s and 170s, I get an equal amount of 164s and 5s. Not sure if this would count a a huge spread, I know its really only a 3 point swing, but it definitely feels like it to me. Anyone else have a big spread on PTs before they took the test? How'd you do?

Well, there's a 6 point score band on your LSAC report for this reason. Statistically speaking and all things equal, you will pretty much score between three points below and three points above where you should on any given test. I was actually also swinging back and forth between 164 and 171 right before my test and it really bothered me. I will say I was so nervous on test day that I freaked out and hit right over my diagnostic. But I sulked for a month or so, got back on my feet, and hit one of my highest scores ever on a retake.
Sorry if that's not very encouraging, but in other words, make sure you're ready but calm on test day. If you go in confident and with a good gut feeling, lots of rest, a good breakfast, and you don't let yourself get too emotionally invested on any section, you should hit at the top of your PT range.

There is a certain element of luck on the LSAT, and it manifests as variance in your scores. This kind of spread is perfectly normal. Just keep working hard. That's all you can do.

the week of the Oct test I got a 171, 165, 165, 165, 171 and ended up with a 171. By the third 165, I wanted to die. Thank god I got that last 171 to get my confidence back up..

Too bad law schools will treat even a 2-3 point spread as indicative of someone being either waitlist/reject or auto-admit material.

i varied between 165 and 173. i got a 166. i ultimately decided not to retake, since it was good enough for where i wanted to go, but i was pretty crushed for a week or so.

Did anyone else think this was going to be a sports betting thread? I was all set to argue why Auburn shouldn't be getting that man points over Oregon come January.

To answer OP's question, as others have said, this variance is completely normal, you are fluctuating within +/- 1 standard deviation. Keep working hard.
