How can you tell if you have ADD or a disorder that causes you to lose attention to detail? I often read things and then don't even know what I've read. I think this happens to some people, but not as frequently as it occurs with me. Are there things I can do to test whether or not I have a deficiency?

I seem to have massive issues with the RC sections. My LR sections are improving. I used to be about -6 in each. My most recent exam was preptest 40.

-3 LR
-0 LG
-5 LR (2-3 of these were to timing issues and I had to guess)
-10 RC
Score: 164
Goal: 170

I can't seem to focus during the RC sections and generally drop 7 to 10 questions consistently.

You don't have ADD. Read more.

I originally thought the same thing. I think it is your way of rationalizing a deficiency. It was for me.

stop watching tv; read a book. Preferably something good like My Name is Red.


Ok now i actually read your post You are a lazy reader. Learn how to be engaged in what you are reading. Visualize, reason, predict, don't just put letters together to form words.

Same here for me.

Most people go to doctors to get things diagnosed.

Also, I think you should consider the fact that law students have to do lots of reading and pay attention to details. If you aren't good at or don't enjoy reading and miss details when you read, is law school really the right place for you? Isn't there a significant chance that you would be miserable and/or terrible at it?

No because law schools don't say here's your homework...it's due in 35 minutes. I enjoy it, I just need more time than others. That fact certainly doesn't mean that I would be an bad student in law school either.

Force the other side of your brain to work when you are reading. Don't just read words off a page, visualize what you are reading. If the passage is talking about an artist with a particular style, picture in your head the guy standing in front of a painting with that style. If there are critics, picture someone else standing in front badmouthing the art. Do whatever you can to make both sides of the brain interact, because that is how comprehension takes place.
