Hey I'm not exactly sure if you should or shouldn't, although with such a big jump an explanation seems in order depending on where you are applying.

I'm curious what other people think about OP's situation. I had a ten point jump (156-166), though not as big as OP, but I'm curious if I should write one as well. I have a 3.96 at Ohio State.

So I retook in October and got a 174. Should I write an addendum or does this increase speak for itself? I don't want to write that I lost control of my nerves, this doesn't sound very appealing and I think it could negatively impact my application. Any advice on whether to write and addendum or what to say in it?? (Oh and my gpa is a 3.87 from Georgetown)

Thanks!!!!
I believe some schools have requested an addendum in these circumstances.

I'd do it and keep it to one or two sentences. Simply say it was well below where you had been consistently testing hence you retook the test and scored in line with expectations. As long as you're not expecting HYS I think that will be fine.

Sorry to hijack, but I'd also be interested in responses - 160 in June, 172 in October, 3.70 LSDAS.

ea1537, I'm sorry that you had that misfortune in June but I am glad to see you overcame it.

Any specific tips? (not only for study techniques, but also psychological ones for how you dealt with it :( )

I really appreciated that, eaa1537.

Congrats again and I hope to pay this forward to some young chap who has a bad day on 12/11.

Don't think I can be of any help, but I am most likely going to include an addendum of some sort, as well. I went from a 158 (Sept 09) to a 171 this Oct. So, I think I'll probably just write a few lines about why my first score wasn't reflective of my abilities.
