I wanted to finalize my 2010 version before converting it. I think I've finally perfected the 2010 version. There is nothing I want to add to it. Therefore, I should be able to sit down and work on a version for older excel soon.

On behalf of all of TLS, I heartily cosign this.
NP. I enjoy making stuff like this. It's always a great learning experience. I honestly knew very little about excel before starting this project.

I spotted a huge error this evening. The RC results column on the Prep. Tests sheet was acting up. I’ve corrected the error and updated the link accordingly.

All you need to do to fix your spreadsheet is to enter the following formula in cell N6 of the Prep Tests sheet:

=IFERROR(IF(VLOOKUP(B6&"ALL",Schedule!H:I, 2, FALSE)>0, IF(VLOOKUP(B6&"ALL",Schedule!H:W,15, FALSE)="", VLOOKUP(B6&"ALL",Schedule!H:I, 2, FALSE), VLOOKUP(B6&"ALL",Schedule!H:W,15, FALSE)), ""),"")

And then scroll the formula all the way to row 69 (where the Prep. Test table ends). If you require more explicit instructions, PM me and I’ll put something together with pictures.

Thanks.

I'm not sure one can copyright something based entirely off of another copyrighted item (excel).

Edit: Out of curiosity, what does a 'conflict resolution' major comprise of? Is that like 'pre-law'? I ask because I've seen it before and I'm dying to know.

Exciting news! I just finsihed a version designed to work with older versions of excel. Most of the same functions are there, but it's slower and no where near as pretty.

I have posted the link on the OP. Enjoy :)

Tehehehe good question. It's wear you trade in your money making hat for a helpers had.No but in all seriousness you just learns skills of how to be a better mediator or person to help people through their disputes...like a counselor but not strictly tied to crazy people. I thought it would help me be a better public interest lawyer. We will see....

Made a minor cosmetic update today. You notice how every date in the tracking graph has a coma after it? It's been driving me crazy since 3.3 was released. Anyway, it's not an issue any more.

Some people have informed me that this spreadsheet is too complicated and the instructions are convoluted. I was afraid of this. To resolve this, I am creating tutorial video to be posted on Youtube. The video should make things clearer. I expect to complete the video sometime this week. A link to the video will be posted on the OP once it is ready.

Lookin' good. 8)
Thanks. There weren't many good reviews. I'm going back to the drawing board. At this rate, it would have taken another 10 minutes of video to cover the features anyway. I'm just going to keep it short and simple.

I thought the spreadsheet was really nerdy and pathetic. Then I saw the video.

At least other threads in this forum seem like they can help me study!

Thanks for your input Cap H2O. Let us know when you get back from break so you don't have to hide behind Mom and Dad's IP :)

Anyway, I just released version 3.4 today. The difference? I upped the max from 4 months to 6 months of study. I also did some work on the graphs to make them easier to see and I changed the dropdown menus for the tracking feature so they don't always look like a bunch of blank spaces. I haven't perfected the latter feature yet, but I'll fix it evetually.

I'm done with this thing until after my applications are finished (unless someone shows me a significant glitch).

Happy Thanksgiving!

PS: I also updated the poll to remove the "more than 4 months of study" option since the spreadsheet now has that. This inadvertently cleared the results.

Sorry to hear that. Excel is the second most used software in the workplace. I don't know how you'll ever get a job if spreadsheets like this hurt your eyes.

I can understand why it may seem complicated to those who are not familiar with excel. That's why I provided instructions.

Thanks for playing.

OK, I'll explain myself more thoroughly since you seem intent on butthurt whenever someone criticizes you.

It's not a question of usefulness, and just because it's Excel doesn't make it zOMG totally worth my time. It makes my eyes bleed because of all the colors and clutter of information.

It's not a matter of being complicated, but of being more work than is worth it -- or (as is often the case with law students and pre-law students) -- creating unnecessary work with no point. For example, what's the added value of having a graph like this? What does this do that simply paying attention to and noting what kinds of questions you tend to be missing can't?

Actually, you're frequent trolling on the social lounge is what makes you a suspicious tool. Besides, I've taken criticism before. Yours lacks substance and is therefore thinly veiled trolling.
aschup wrote: It's not a question of usefulness, and just because it's Excel doesn't make it zOMG totally worth my time.
How does my response pertain to usefulness? If spreadsheets make your eyes bleed, that's a serious disadvantage. I'm sorry to hear that. I never said this is totally worth your time because it's excel. That had nothing to do with my statement.
aschup wrote: It makes my eyes bleed because of all the colors and clutter of information.
This is the first real and credible critique you have offered. Thank you. Was that so hard?

There aren’t that many colors. If this is confusing, god help you.
aschup wrote: It's not a matter of being complicated, but of being more work than is worth it-- or (as is often the case with law students and pre-law students) -- creating unnecessary work with no point.
Did you score your practice tests? Did you keep track of the question types you were missing? Is it really more work than is necessary to keep track of your missed questions? Perhaps some don’t need to do this. I’m glad you got away without doing this when you studied. However, I think many will tell you that this practice has its advantages.
aschup wrote: For example, what's the added value of having a graph like this? What does this do that simply paying attention to and noting what kinds of questions you tend to be missing can't?
First, can I ask whether or not this graph was part of your ‘cluttered’ argument? If you even bothered to open this thing, or if you read the instructions (which I’m sure you did before criticizing because you’re clearly not a troll), you’d know that you can adjust the fields to reflect only certain dates and certain question types. Here’s the page from the instructions that you missed:

Image

This is the same exact graph from the image you posted. The difference is that I manipulated the fields (by the simple push of a button) to display only the red trend line. One could also manipulate the dropdown menus above the graph to change the date criteria. You don’t have to view your results from day one. You could just view your results for a given week of your preference.

To answer your question more directly, I think most people will find it helpful to keep track of the question types they are missing. That’s how they know what question types they should spend the most time reviewing. I don’t know about you, but when I was studying for the LSAT, I went over every question I missed on my PTs. However, I would spend more time on some question types than others: specifically the question types I had been historically weak with. I spent less time on those that I miss a few of here and there. I didn’t have this graph to help me out. I personally remembered the question types that haunted me the most. I suspect most people can do the same on their own with some effort. This graph makes that a little easier.

That graph displays the top 10 question types you missed the most. Moreover, that graph also ranks those question types by series. In other words, the red series (that red line) will always be the question type you miss most often. The orange will always be your second most prevalently missed question type. This graph doesn’t ask that you memorize a bunch of color codes beyond the usual red (high priority) to while (low priority).

Lastly, the graph automatically updates this information for you when you enter your results for a given day. If you think entering your results for a given day is more labor than is necessary, you’re welcome to your opinion. I think you’ll find NR disagrees with you if you check the bottom of page one of this thread. I don’t take that as NR’s approval of this spreadsheet, but I take it as his acknowledgement of the importance of recording and monitoring this data.

I know you’ve had a hard on for me ever since I bad-mouthed your troll friends. Please try and keep it in the social lounge. If you want to criticize my spreadsheet further, you are welcome to. Please make sure you use it first so your next criticism has some credibility.

butthurt

In the interest of having more options on the market. I'm offering a counter spreadsheet

Image

In the a column you can write question types, in B you can put the average number of times it appears per test, in C the average number of times you get in incorrect. In D maybe links to porn sites.

Adjust the colors how ever you like.
