I personally just took it once. But I have a friend who got 159-159-159-162 over the course of 2.5 years. That last score I think really made a difference, as he got to go to his target school.

159 3 times in a row? I would surely have given up by then.

Cancel/166/166/171. Took it the 4th time to get off waitlists this summer, got off at Texas and Vanderbilt instantly. Thought about reapplying for the next cycle but didn't.

How did you do to take 4 tests in two years?

He didn't say he took it within 2 years. But if you want to, ask a law school for permission. Look up 4 times lsat in the search and it will give you more detail.

160, 162, waiting.

My first 2 were nearly 5 years ago, so they're about to fall off my record, and since some schools want a score within the last 3 years they're already on their way out.

The first time I fell for the lies it was a pure aptitude test, did the free test to get a feel for q types, and went straight in, so the 160 was almost diagnostic level. I'd also had no sleep, as I had a 7 hour overnight coach journey to get to the testing centre. A lot of the missed qs were LG, I think I got -11 on that.

Second one was, again, a 5am start, and my prep work had still been.... limited. 162, although this time it was RC I flunked, which was odd as before and since that's always been a strength.

This time, over 35 preptests, all done in Starbucks/other distracting places, with a 30 minute alarm on each section, and no scores below 173, most 175-178. I'd *better* do better this time :)

157-164-waiting. Pretty sure I met my goal (170) in October. The interesting thing is going to be writing a short yet awesome addendum to get schools to overlook the 157...

166/164/??? (hopefully 170+ like I've been testing).

I applied a bunch of places last year and was waitlisted pretty much everywhere because I turned my apps in in February.

Not sure, I never actually asked. But I do know that he was very persistent in his desire to break past 160 before applying anywhere (had a really strong GPA).

suspicious android wrote:Took it 3 times, got in everywhere my highest score predicted I'd get in last cycle. One score was almost 5 years old, which was the lowest. Don't think I would have gotten in had they been averaged. I don't think this is something that law school adcomms spend more than a few seconds thinking about.

My educated guess for you considering that one score was almost 5 years old is that I don't think most law schools, not even HYS would view that score negatively against you. If there's a lot of time in between tests, the older score being the lowest one, I think an addendum to mention the score and moving on should seal the deal in your favor. I guess the other two scores were recent?

cancel/164/170/3.6 GPA

In at Berkeley, Mich($), Penn($), Duke ($$), and Cornell, among others. Multiple scores didn't seem to make a difference.

Do a search for the guy who took it 7 times. I don't think the number of times you take it, range of scores, cancels, absences, etc. make a difference, even to the very top schools.

158 September - showed up and took the test after looking at the practice test on the lsat website
162 December - did about four practice tests to study and on those, scored 168-172 but didn't simulate practice conditions, applied anyways to schools
165 June - still couldn't find a real job so I took this one hoping to get off waitlists, actually studied and was setting timers for every section in the public library to simulate semi-noisy conditions. Had a PT range of 167-174 (best score was like -5 or 6 overall a couple times) depending on how bad I botched LR which was by far my worst section. I was in the 170-174 consistently towards the end of my studying, with a 16something after I took the test at night after doing manual labor all day. My reading score varied between -5 and -0, but always aced LG from the start. On the actual test, I thought one of my LR sections was an experimental until I turned the page at the end of the section and saw my second LG section. I knew I should never do this, but I had never seen two of the question stems before and it just really threw me off. I thought cancelling, but didn't want to go through with taking the test again and couldn't really afford to take another year off. I was hoping for a 170+, expecting at least a 168, because I knew I did pretty well on LG and LR. Was really pissed with my score (I think I missed 14 total on LR), but I got in to wustl off the WL with a scholarship about 2 days after I sent them an e-mail so I took that over reapplying next year.

If you're really worried about a school averaging, just call them and ask if they average. Most don't, and I'm pretty sure there's a post here that says what every school in the T25 or T50 does. Good Luck!

165/170/waiting

Last one was likely a waste, but I scored higher on preptests and then convinced myself it could be worth it. We'll see.

ETA: But some of the schools I'm going for actually do average, especially if less than 6 points between the scores, which I just missed. So I figured- better to average 3 than 2 if the last score is at least 170 or higher. (Plus it might show that the 170 is more indicative of my 'potential'.)
