PT 50 LR ?'s

Postby roballen » Sun Sep 12, 2010 6:55 pm

Can someone please explain #'s 18 & 24 from the first LR section and then the following from the second LR section, #'s 11. why cant it be B? # 14, #15 ( can you diagram this?),#18, #21- how would you use the negation technique with this? #22. is E right bc the stimulus is speaking about statistics and then E mentions frequency?

S2 #18 (The Toddler Question)

The answer is C because the passage implies that toddlers can't adapt to new rules. Therefore, when they don't listen to things you say (aka "new rules), they're not necessarily being disobedient on purpose.

D and E are pretty easy to eliminate. The answer is not B because the passage doesn't preclude the possibility of toddlers EVER adapting to new rules, just their difficulty in doing so. The answer is not A because it seems to imply that being unable to sort objects by color is the exception for toddlers, not the norm.

S2, #24 (The Acid Pollutants Question)

The answer is A because if ecosystems have developed a defense against acid rain, then indeed, the negative effects of acid rain will be decreased.

The answer is not B because if buffers have been decreasing, then the negative effects of acid rain that were prevented by those buffers might increase despite the decrease in acid pollutants. The answer is not C because increased coal production will see an increase in acid pollutants and thus, acid rain. The answer is not D because if the negative effects of acid rain are cumulative and independent of current levels of acid rain, then it won't really matter if acid rain stops soon because the negative effects will continue to linger. The answer is not E because if soil has been stripped of its protection against acid rain, even decreased amounts of acid rain could do a lot of damage.

S4, #11 (The Omega-3 Fatty Acid Question)

The answer is D because in order to conclude that fish-eaters are healthier heart-wise, it is key to eliminate any other variables that could explain their condition other than fish. D addresses that on the nose.

As for why it's not B? It doesn't really matter what kind of diet the fish-eaters had, as long as they ate fish and exhibited better heart conditions.
