How would you diagram these?

Post by Blindc1rca » Sun Aug 29, 2010 9:27 pm

At least one car is between the Acura and the Mercedes, regardless of which comes first.

At least two cars are between the Honda and the Toyota, regardless of which comes first.

Nothing really difficult, my diagram was just really inefficient.

Have you read the LGB? How did you diagram it?

A/M ___ M/A

H/T __ __ T/H

I have read the LGB. The diagram you offered up would confuse me because it looks fixed. Note the "At least."

Oooh missed that, silly me. In that case it depends on how many players are left after you take out those two. If there aren't too many, there's probably a "set" # of cases that could happen - I'd probably try to diagram each case and figure time lost here will be gained when answering the questions.

It probably also depends on what the other conditions are, since that can restrict what can happen too as well.

8 players, not too restrictive. I think I found a solution in case such a Q arises again.

The original LGB form like you said:

A/M _ M/A

H/T _ _ T/H

with one difference (and I couldn't do it on here) put a ≥ sign above the space or spaces.

Yeah as long as you find what works for you it should be fine :)

The LGB loves inequalities. I would simply write "least" or "at least" in front of the block.

at least [ A/M _ M/A ]

Whatever floats your boat!

A/M _ ...M/A

That usually works for me...

I don't necessarily recommend thinking of it in negative terms, but as far as the first rule, it's basically saying that you can't have AM or MA.

I think i remember the game with this rule and the negative diagram faired better for me. Basically XM/A and XH/T and XH/T_H/T

I like this, simple + efficient.

Originally I went negative, but I didn't like it because the second one (two or more) had to be diagrammed as ~H/T, ~T/H, ~H/T_T/H, AND ~H/T_ _T/H.
Tooooo much IMO.

Yup. This was an LG from PT32... S3 12-18. Compositions. Just changed it to vehicles for shits and gigs.

Thanks you guys. This is why I love this forum.

I made up a method for the AT LEAST that communicates the at least-ness to me.

I would write A/M _ (+?) A/M.

Although I need to re-read the LGB, I started writing
A _ (+?) M and
M _ (+?) A

instead of the both kind of thing.

I don't know, maybe writing out both is better for me visually, I can see it.

I know an ellipsis (...) is simpler/easier to write but for me, the visual bigness and just... (+?) question mark kind of thing makes it more apparent to me that its changeable.
