hello~ long time lurker--retaking in october after a first run in june...

was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get the edge for those last few points... I remember seeing Knock on a lot of the boards in June, and I'm getting your score minus a few most of the time. I'm kind of stuck at the 175-7 point and i'd reaaally like to push past that (especially since the common wisdom seems to be that you score a few less than your practice avg on the real thing) in order to validate me doing a retake of june's 170 :/

i can't seem to get my mistakes in LR under 2-4 most of the time, and I almost always get ~2 wrong on LG as well... perhaps just consistency tips?

Hmm cutting out the last few misses is always tricky. I recommend, 1) fine tuning your pacing. By now, since you're averaging 175-177, you should be able to cut through the easier LR questions. Make sure to burn through these, to give yourself LOTS of time to do the hard ones. 2) skip and come back. if you eliminate answer choices (and on the tough questions you should always be eliminating answer choices rather than just trying to pick the correct one), get it down to 2, and can't figure out which 2 to pick, move on. Don't sit there and try and force it. Seriously, this is like magic. Like 90% of the time I come back, and go "oh" and figure it out pretty easily, and see what i'm missing. I also found the difference between consistently getting a -0/-1 on LR sections is to pick that right answer when you have narrowed it down to 2 choices. I've found it's easier many times to look for the smallest little subtle thing that could make an answer choice wrong, rather than trying to validate one of the two as correct.

As far as LG, it's tough, since the games types vary so it's kind of hard to give blanket advice. Just be sure to make sure your rule diagramming is correct, your making a strong base diagram, and your going through answer choices very systematically. Always knock out the one or two wrong answers, and whittle your way down to the correct answer choice. Try and always keep your pencil moving. That's a great thing I found. I used to just sit there and think. Now I just immediately engage the first answer choice. Sometimes that's the only way to take on a problem. Engage that first answer choice, put it in a hypothetical and run with it. A lot of times doing this will help you with the inferences. And when you pick an answer choice, always double check and make sure it fits all the rules.

Hope this helped, and glad to answer any more questions.

Took Pt 59 today. I went 172 originally on it the friday before the real deal in June. This time I hit 179, going -1 LG -1 LR (-2 RC) -0 LR -2 RC for 97 raw and 179 scaled. I am going to rest up until Saturday. I truly feel that I have prepared as much as I can, and that I am ready to do well on test day.

59 -- 10/02/10 ---- -1 LG -1 LR -0 LR -2 RC ------- 97/179 ----- 5 sections

Just added it up, looks like i'm averaging 177 over 13 PT's with a low of 174 and a high of 180 on my retake studying. If I just hit my average, i'd be ecstatic, and if I only hit my minimum, i'd still be very, very pleased.
