Retake?

Postby tipler4213 » Sat Aug 07, 2010 10:18 am

I think most of you will advise retake, but my situation is somewhat unique so I thought I'd explain it first. I have a 3.88 GPA and am taking a year off to get some work experience (the kind that will be an awesome soft). I have taken the LSAT twice.
The first time (February) I was under prepared but rushed into it because I thought I was going to be out of the country in June...I got a 162 (3-4 points below PT average). My prep was limited to the Bibles and 15 or so PTs.
The second time I got really motivated. I did the Blueprint Online testprep (about 85-90% of the practice questions they give) and did a ton of PTs (all but the first 10 Actual, Official LSATs). I was PTing at about 173, but then somehow bombed the real test and got a 165 (ouch!). I got a perfect score on games, did a little worse than usual on LR, and did (uncharacteristically) horrible on the RC. One thing I noticed was a shortage of time, which is usually not a problem for me despite mimicking real test conditions.

So with only some left over problems in Blueprint and 10 super old tests (whose problems I have done a lot of with Blueprint and the Bibles), do you think there is a decent shot I can get back into the 170s?
If not, I would rather save the money, time, energy, embarrassment, etc and just apply really early.

Thoughts?

Its a tough call man. I am a re-taker and you can still improve using old materials. Just use the tests that you don't remember that well strategically. You need to start doing things like taking 30 min per section on the tests you already took, be more proactive in IDing you weaknesses, etc.

165 is a good score, but if you think you can get in the 170s I say its worth a retake. Where are you trying to get in?

Retake. What do you have to lose?
