Retaking LSAT in October - When Should My Apps be in by?

So I am retaking in October and wanted to know when my apps should be in by? Is it possible to submit my current score to a few safeties early in the cycle (September) to have them evaluate me with my current score, or will they simply put my application on hold until after the October scores are released. I want to have most of the apps in by Thanksgiving - will this hurt my chances at scholly money? Thanks.

I think you're still considered "early" if you have your apps in by T-giving.

I believe you are also correct in that any school you apply to prior to that will hold your app for your October scores... since most schools don't even start the decision making process until December, I don't know how much benefit you will glean from that.

I would say to concentrate on just taking the test, ace it, then complete your apps, FWIW...

Beg to differ with previous response:

It's possible to apply to the safeties and have them evaluate your application with your current score, before the October LSAT scores come back - simply don't tell them you're retaking.

Why submit the other apps as late as Thanksgiving? Why not have everything ready earlier so you can submit a complete application as soon as your October score comes back? The sooner you apply, the better your chances are - for admission AND schollies.

Rolling admissions means that applications are evaluated in the order in which they're received.

If I don't tell them (1 or 2 schools max. 3) that I am retaking and submit in September they won't know I am retaking from my file or anything? And if I do get a higher score in November can I use that as leverage even after I am hopefully accepted. Also, I want to apply ASAP after scores are released - Tgiving as the latest date.

Also, thanks jack, nice avi - is that a rabbit? That is one scarry mofo. If I would get a lower score - not expecting to do that - would that affect my applictaions, the schools that I am applying to take the highest score only.

Your app would be complete, so those schools would be able to evaluate it. I don't believe they'd know from your file that you were retaking.

Get the rest of your apps in order during the waiting period for your October score.

If you got a lower score on your retake, it wouldn't be great, but it wouldn't be too bad.

Edit: Depends on the school, but it's possible that you could use the higher score to bargain for scholly money.

And after I am admitted, can I bargain money with a higher score that I take after I get in?

I could totally be mis-remembering here, but I believe that I posed this question to an admissions staffer and was informed that they can see that you are registered for another exam when they request your file. I may have just seen that on here, but I am pretty sure that is correct... Apologies, I think I am still blocking many memories from the admissions cycle. :)

Like I was saying before, I would be shocked if you were accepted anywhere by November. I KNOW I was told by more than one admissions person that they don't even START reviewing apps until the end of November. (I totally don't mean that there is a problem with your app, only that they might not start reviewing by then.)

On the 'tar... It's a Monty Python thing. Ever see the Holy Grail? If not, I commend it to you in good health!

I am in a similar situation to you, I took the June and will be retaking in October...

I met the prelaw advisor at my school yesterday after work and asked him this same question. *I believe he used to hold a prominent place in admissions at a top 28, so he has an idea regarding these things work I would think.

He told me to wait until after the scores are back in October, and told me if I get my apps in before Thanksgiving I'm good. He said this is considered "early" because he most admissions people are still out recruiting/concerned with other things in the early fall and won't even start really looking at apps until after thanksgiving. So if you get them in by then you're in good shape. Just wait, no point in making things complicated or rushing....I'm going to take his advice.

Thanks dude that is solid advice.

Edit: Spelling issue with the notoriously tricky word "advice." hahah
