Main Point versus Conclusion Questions

Post by schand » Fri Feb 05, 2010 6:57 pm

It seems to me that main point questions ask you to deduce the conclusion rather than finding the conclusion within the argument. Is this true of the question type or is it equivalent to an identify the conclusion question type. I keep getting tripped up on these. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

what is a "conclusion question"? do you mean "justify the conclusion"?

my understanding is that "main point" questions are asking you what the main point or main conclusion of the argument is. therefore, "main point" questions ask you to identify the conclusion and are one and the same as that "identify the conclusion" question type which you referred to.

Every now and then a question will ask what conclusion the argument is "structured to lead to." That means the conclusion won't be stated. As far as I know, for any other phrasing, the conclusion could be stated or not.
