Last-minute advice for tackling assumption questions?

Postby SoCalKevin » Mon Feb 01, 2010 4:45 pm

These seem like they should be some of the easier ones for me, but they're the majority of question types I miss.

Help...?

If it is a supporter assumption, you must find the new "rogue" element in the conclusion and link it to the premise so that the conclusion makes sense.

If it is a defender assumption, the assumption protects a seemingly flawed argument by plugging the logical hole, or "defending" against a weakening statement. (This is the one that the Assumption Negation technique mentioned above works particularly well on). So you can prephrase a "Weaken" scenario to the conclusion, and find the answer that defends against that weakening statement.
