February takers-- more PTs or done?

Postby becauseimaddicted » Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:51 pm

Its Monday...will you take another test between now and Saturday? Why or why not?

I have one last recent test that I haven't taken (its possible that I've seen questions but the test is new to me) and I am either going to a) take it in its entirety tonight, review tomorrow and Wednesday or b) take it in sections today and tomorrow, review tomorrow and Wednesday. I am leaning towards b. I have taken many practice tests and I don't think endurance is a problem for me. I struggle more with nerves and sloppy mistakes.

Thoughts? What are you doing.

I have 2 review sessions today and tomorrow. Not sure if I'll take a PT Wednesday or not (right now I'm leaning towards "yes", but I'll see how the reviews go before then). Plan to do no studying Thursday or Friday except maybe go over the results of Wednesday test if I take one.

I was originally planning on doing

Mon: 56
Tues: 57
Wed: 58
Thurs: 59

Instead, I've decided just to do PT 59 tomorrow and if I do well by my standards (175+) take it easy :)

If I don't do well, I will do PT 57 on Wed and PT 58 on Thursday.

I am going to slowly work through 57 untimed and try and take 58 timed. That will do it for me. Que Sera Sera

I'm taking one timed PT a day until test day. On Wednesday morning I am going to simulate the real thing, like waking up early and all.

I've changed my mind about Wednesday. No full PT -- just a section of RC and a section or two of LR (probably the LR from PT59). I'm starting to see signs of burnout and nerves leading up to the test (I missed 7 last night on a LR section which shouldn't happen) and I'm doing some work tonight, so I don't want to kill myself. I probably will take Thursday and Friday off studying completely.

I feel like the one PT a day sets up a habit. I feel like if I am used to having to take one every day, when it comes time for the real thing, it will be like just another PT.

This is what I was worried about, so I studied sporadically. Intensely for a few days, then not at all for two or three days. Then some light study, followed by a day or two off, and then a few more days of more focused study. I think too many PTs can cause burnout, but everyone is different. Some people might require daily PTs.

I decided not to take a test Monday, mostly because I was exhausted after work and lacked the energy to focus properly. I just did an RC section and missed 2, which I would be satisfied with as RC feels like my weakest section at the moment.

I could probably take one tomorrow morning, but I'm not sure if it would help or hurt. Its more about keeping my nerves under control rather than improving, as my PT scores have been consistently over 170 and I would be very happy with that score. (I got a 160 in December because I just about had a nervous breakdown before the test and I am mostly concerned with preventing another such happening).

What are you guys doing to relax between now and then?

A PT everyday until saturday. I might lay off friday, but 59 today, 58 tomorrow, and 57 the day after...we'll see about friday. Probably just review some strats.

RC is still bugging me, I tend to miss the obvious questions only later to pick the right one

From my own experience, I think that the whole idea of "saving" the most recent (and thus most relevant) PT's for the last days is 100% retarded. Why would you wait to bust out the best study material until it's too late to work with? For example, I was not pleased by the realization that RC suddenly gets way harder on the final few tests (that I had saved until T-2 weeks)

^for me, it's a hit or miss with RC.

Sometimes I only miss a couple, other times...much worse :(

I guess it will all depend on if I get it first or last. (I hope I get it first)

1 more timed one for me (58 tonight), then a gentle cruise through 59. Friday taking the day off to do some cycling and listen to some chill tunes. Then game time.

I'm doing 55 timed from 7-9:30ish tomorrow then a long relaxed break and an untimed 56 around 2-4:30

i already took like 30-54 and 58

should i replace 56 and do 59 instead or is there no difference?

Done, perhaps an individual timed section

Sophie, I would suggest doing 59 instead. 59 has an objectively harder RC section, and (imo) a more difficult LR section as well. Plus, it's the most recent test. I think it's pretty good practice.

Doing 57 right now, and will do 58 tomorrow. Going to do some Kaplan Mastery for Assumptions/PR/Inferences/Strengthen/Weaken/Method of Argument tonight, tomorrow, and Friday (focusing on the 3 star or 4 star questions).

I'm a bit concerned to stop right now, I have done 14-15 PT in total (I did the LSAT last year too) and feel I could benefit from much more (I have done probably 30-40 PT in total, since I have dissected the LR/LG/RC into different sections). Then again, I am not like mot of you guys though, I am scoring around the low 160s (and high 150s if I get stumped on a LG/RC passage) and my prep has only been last month and the last two weeks of December :?. I definitely feel I could benefit from another 2-3 months of prep, haha. I have the feeling of burnout but I need to keep pushing until the LSAT.

Is it much harder than 58? I don't have PT 59 available :( .

Thanks :) ok

rggh I wish they would just accidentally forget to include RC in the feb test. I hate my variations on it. In a timed setting today was the first time I didnt get a single question wrong, usually i get 1-3, and I feel like that was a fluke (although I did do it differnetly- I didnt underline, only circled a few key terms and read very slowly so that I never had to look back at the essay and was confident with answers)
there's so much variation though, im convinced we'll end up with some insane LG that has like 30 different variables and a RC passage that's a whole page long on the genetic transformation of some latin named fly.
