What is the Best & Worst Breakfast on Test Day?

Post by TokyoLove » Thu Jan 07, 2010 7:43 am

In your experience, what kind of food has helped you stay focused and strong (even energetic perhaps) through the long, ardous hours of the LSAT?
Which food proved to be a disaster?

Protein and coffee. Not too much coffee though - you don't want to have to pee. I had eggos with peanut butter on them because that is what we had in the house. I took high protein granola bars with me for my snack. My main concern was drinking too much, I really had to pee by the break.

But, protein is what I would go with, way better than sugar any day.

The best thing to do is eat what you're used to eating for breakfast. For the best results, eat a full breakfast every morning for a few weeks prior. Make sure you balance your diet with protein, grains, fruit, etc. As far as coffee, make sure it's the same amount that you're used to. Make sure you do not drink an amount that you aren't used to. If you drink too little, you will be tired.

I recommend a bean and cheese burrito. Make sure to ask for extra beans.

carbs ftw!

I would avoid coffee (liquids); pop a Vivarin if you need caffeine.

Test Day:

Granola bar = best. IHOP = worst

Any other day:

Granola bar = worst. IHOP = best

An apple, oatmeal, 1 cup coffee. A breakfast to light and you will be hungry, too heavy and you will not be able to think. Pee as much as you can the morning before the test. At the test center, pee again, even if you do not need too. Honest advice.

I heart IHOP. Unfortunately they seem to have no intention of entering the Asian market.
Yeah breakfast in Asia just doesn't cut it. mantou or baozi does not come close to giant stacks of chocolate pancakes with eggs and sausage. European /North American breakfasts ftw!

+1 on the vivarin. Do not drink any coffee for two reasons: #1 and #2.

I had greek yogurt and granola - my usual breakfast. Must not have been the best breakfast though, as reflected in my score.

BEST:

As much protein and complex carbohydrates as you can handle. And coffee, tea or soda for caffeine if you like caffeine.

I read some study that as little as a half of a cup of coffee can majorly boost test performance. That being said it can also make you very nervous, anxious and edgy if you consume to much.

WORST:

Stay away from things that make you crap. You don't to be half way through the first section and start thinking about how fast you can get to the bathroom and how screwed you are.

I personally think it is just a combination of what your stomach handles best and what makes you feel full. It really doesn't matter what you eat as long as you know you can stomach it.

Eggs (2 whole, 4 whites) and oatmeal in the morning. Just a boneless chicken breast tender and a piece of broccoli at the break.

Low glycemic carbs combined with protein. I prefer an oatmeal / protein combination, such as oatmeal and eggs.

During my first test, I drank too much coffee before and began the pee-my-pants panic during the second section, then got up and went to the bathroom during section three. I came back and filled in the little "Cancel" bubbles. When I retook, I drank exactly one cup of coffee, and also made sure I was the last person in line so I had plenty of time to take care of bizness.

What the fuck, a nice hot bowl of congee kicks the crap out of pancakes, eggs and sausages.

For 20-some years, you've been eating/not eating breakfast in the morning. By now, you probably know what you like and what makes you feel alert/good. I don't think it's much more complicated than that...
